I wonder about the ventilation system on aircraft. Especially long haul flights. I’ve known many people myself included that have experienced various respiratory after longer flights. Too late now.
Precisely, sqad. And some times are even worse than others.
I’m with Gness on this both he and his family knew the risks involved but he and his family decided a holiday abroad was more important than the vulnerability of a 100 year old man that was their choice they took a chance and lost out I have more sympathy for the sitting ducks in care homes that were at the mercy of Government, Visitors and care home staff
11:11 Totally agree with you Bobbie.
I wonder who wanted the holiday most,
I am in two minds, I really feel that anyone who chose not to stay at home during the pandemic for strictly social reasons was wrong, but then I would have totally banned all gatherings over Christmas as well. I think the offer to him and his family was where the blame lies. I expect the plan was to use it for publicity purposes once travel became easier.

At his age with pneumonia and now covid I suspect the outlook is grim and if he dies it will be no more sad than if any other centenarian died after living a long and interesting life. I will keep my sadness for those who are denied the years they should have had.
Just heard on the news that his family is at his bedside. This seems to be going against usual protocols.
Just read that a few minutes ago. ^^^^ said it is allowed in ''exceptional circumstances''. Doesn't seem fair when so many others have been denied .
I agree Andres it does seem a bit unfair given all the 10’s of thousands of sufferers who have died without family at their side.
You need to check with your particular Hospital and they will give you the details for the department/ward that your relative is in.

I would imagine it also depends on whether you are saying your final goosbyes.

"Just heard on the news that his family is at his bedside"

Given that gness was prevented from being at her mother's (dying) bedside and not even allowed to attend the funeral, I am so angry on her behalf that I may explode.

This is a complete bloody travesty.
Maybe it's a private hospital.
Dave and I were chatting over dinner tonight. I asked if he thought, should Captain Tom take a turn for the worse, his family would be allowed to be with him.
Dave said surely they wouldn't do that. I disagreed. I had a feeling that an exception would be made for him.

It would have been difficult for me to travel through Ireland when my mother was dying of Covid. A quite long and painful ending to her life.

If I had attempted to travel and could have convinced the guards to let me through our road blocks I was told that it would be pointless anyway. I wouldn't have been allowed to see her, to sit with her or say goodbye had I made it to the UK.
My siblings in the UK were not allowed to visit her.

One rule for some, and a whole shedload of exceptions for 'the right sort of person'.

My heart breaks for all the couples who were separated by Covid and one is now living knowing that their loved one died a lonely, painful death.

This is disgusting beyond belief.
Last year there were indeed people dying alone without even a chance of their family there - even children.

In some hospitals things have been put in place better now but not in all by any means.
Not all by a long way, Mamya.
No, and that's very sad indeed - beyond sad.
I think the same as Bobbie. I'm pleased for Sir Tom that he got the trip he had wished for and that his family are with him.
I believe he is in Bedford Hospital and their website says no visitors allowed for adult patients
Another milestone passed.
