Hmm where to begin..
Just because the world is complex or 'messy' (ie not black and white) does not mean we should simplify it because it suits our purposes and makes the everyday day lives of those who blindly follow 'the unseen forces to 'follow and comply' (capitalist society 'brainwashing'). We should be open minded and seek the 'ultimate truth' not a possibly biased or assumed version of truth.
(naomi24 I'd consider your use of Orwellian in the thread title as incorrect.. a common misconception. I also wasn't aware that 'Orwellian Absurdity' is a thing?
"Orwellian" is an adjective describing a situation, idea, or societal condition that George Orwell identified as being destructive to the welfare of a free and open society.)
I would say in reference to the sub-topic of millionaires (and I would add don't overlook billionaires they DO exist). If there are any here on AB (which I doubt, but will not explain why that is a fact statistically etc).. they will be the ones best qualified to discuss their fortuitous/lucky circumstances.. what I would say is..GOOD LUCK TO THEM! ;O)

Half a century ago, homosexuality was considered a mental illness. There are many who consider transexuals to be mentally ill.
This is the point I was trying (and obviously failing) to put across.

There are in nature such a thing as white-coloured blackbirds, caused by a condition called partial albinism, it isn't the blackbird's fault, it is natural, but it isn't normal.
Earlier a list of some of the many things was given that would have to be transplanted or removed from a male body to attempt to change it into a female one, to which I fairly light-heartedly said it would be simpler have a brain-transplant, by which I implied yes, there is obviously a mental aspect to masculinity & femininity.

very possibly in most cases. but you have to wonder about the motivations of the likes of Veronica Ivy (aka Rachel McKinnon), Lia Thomas, Laurel Hubbard, etc. are they just living how they feel, or are they just using the identity politics card to make themselves good at sport?

I can honestly say that no, I've never thought that, nor do I entertain it as a possibility. I do however think that trans athletes should have their own category of competition and should not be allowed to use their own naturally different physicality as an advantage.

naomi: I always think the term 'Orwellian' to be a bit unfair in George to use his name for negative things, after all the man said such things as "The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history." not to mention, "All animals are equal, except some who are more equal than others", such an intelligent writer.
