the argies did - and lost the war and I think the argie junta fell

Thatcher was 2 years away from a General Election. The Falklands didn’t just erupt, it was the result of 6 months miss management starting with the announced retirement of HMS Endurance, the only military protection the islands had. That was the greenlight for the Argentinian Junta to prepare to invade, which they did. It wasn’t a godsend that saved her skin, it could well have been the nail in her coffin. If the war hadn’t have gone so well, she may have lost her Premiership. As it was, she called an election 2 years early and won.
