In this letter he is talking of the affair that Prince Albert had with Lady Loughborough, the Australian socialite who was married.
Bertie had to give up his association with Lady L as King George had told him so to do if he wanted to be the Duke of York.
Interestingly, though Bertie fell head over heels in love with Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon she, apparently, did not reciprocate immediately.

Thankfully I’ve never said I dislike the Scots because I don’t and why would I , maybe it’s because the two we have here are both against the RF , but I still haven’t had a realistic answer to why you’re against them Maggie, there are many thing a drain on the public purse , free university in Scotland, free bus fares for 5-22 and so it goes on but the latter are rarely met with such vitriol as that of the Royals , is it because of the history yous have with England ?

It literally had never crossed my mind that there was animosity between the Scots and English, until I joined AB... and constantly saw bitterness from some Scots. I wasn't brought up that way. My stepdad would always support Scottish sports teams as "neighbours". It was actually quite a surprise to me.

The Scots are wonderful people on a one-to-one, generous and considerate in thought and in spirit, though perhaps somewhat parsimonious though only a quarter of being Dutch.
However when it comes to being a national clan, and when it comes to war aka sport, they can be a proverbial pain-in-the-sphincter.
