Abramovich himself has given up "stewardship" of Chelsea FC. LiK will be happy about that I fancy.

I preferred the other option.
Might I refer you to Togo's post at 18:04, naomi?

I heard what he said but had expected to hear him address those people in their own languages, on the video, as suggested by the wording of the OP.

Not so great stuff!
Boris had had a long standing friendship with Evgeny Lebedev, owner of the London Evening Standard.
Obrigada Mamyalynne and bravo to the PM despite the initial misdirection.
Just to address Naomi's "Where else" question, I can't help but wonder if other nations are thinking about doing similar while all eyes are on Ukraine? China in Taiwan perhaps? Even Argentina with the Falklands (although the latter is unlikely)

Ah, right. When you watched that clip, Douglas, it didn’t occur to you that the headline didn’t refer to that - even though he very clearly wasn’t addressing Ukraine. Okay.
May I refer you to my 18.04 post Douglas? Note the important word "now". Not even Boris could speak their languages to both at the same time. Who do you think he is? ... peepee.

//Boris has now spoken to both the people of Ukraine and Russia ... in their own languages.//
Strokes chin wondering if he wants to enter into another battle of the righteous with Tory party central.

Decides to ignore representative from now and have a beer.
Did you mean Peppa, Togo?
Of course Douglas. (Rather than attract the ire of the "watchers") (^_*)
He said a line in Russian and then one in Ukranian. It's a nice gesture, and it's more than Donald Trump could have done, but it doesn't make him a genius.

Actions will matter more from now on though.
Exactly Tomus.
I don't think anyone "considered him a genius" Tomus, any more than they consider you one. What was said is ... ""The media likes to portray him as a bumbling half wit. As ever they misrepresent his intellect.""
Calm down Togo. I just thought it was a bit strange that he was lauded for being able to read out a line in 'foreign'. We could all do that, yourself included probably.
Even a dog can be taught to say 'sausages'.
It was a good speech and the inclusion of using the language made it more personal.
It smacks of Hey, this could be your 'Ich bin ein Berliner' moment BJ.

No. It isn't. Sort out Russian money laundering through London, then we'll be impressed.
Question Author
I think his efforts were eminently appropriate but for some Boris can’t do right for doing wrong. Looking at world events right now it’s just as well the carpers have nothing more serious to occupy their thoughts. Funny old world.
“Ich bin ein Berliner”

Now why would I do that :-)
