News comes in (verified) that near Severinovka outside Kyiv, two detachments of Russian military opened fire … on each other: knocking out 9 tanks and 4 armoured personnel carriers.

If it wasn’t for their deadly missiles and our fear of nukes they’d surely be in the retreat by now

Another really interesting facet of the war: the Times reported earlier in the week that an attempt on the life of President Zelensky by Kadyrov Chechens was thwarted by anti-war factions within the FSB.
Now apparently a second attempt has also foundered the same way

In the space of the last 24 hours it seems that the Russian State has blocked Western media sources including the BBC; Facebook, Twitter, and now YouTube.

I can't help but feel that this is the sign of a panicking Government that know it's losing and it desperate to keep control anyway it can. Because the alternative is too horrific to contemplate. I have been to Russia twice. I stayed with a family there, free of charge; that family has in essence welcomed me back whenever I wish. If this situation stays this way then I'll never be able to see my friends again, nor hear from them.

This is madness. Putin has gone crazy.

If this evil slaughter brings about his own downfall will it have been worth it?
Obviously no but it would be a silver lining to a very dark crowd.
Further to what Naomi said earlier the trains from Moscow to Helsinki are booked solid for two days

yeah I read the Times report that the FSB were tipping off Z's men and (frankly) I thought the story was planted. Putin didnt want the experts to do it ( easy peasy) so he was using the mercenaries ( crazy mob) - very un-skripal-ish

A drop in the bucket maybe, but my golf-friend set off one of his coaches to Poland yesterday it being filled with medical supplies, (courtesy of the town of Freudenstadt) and will be bringing about 50 Ukrainian refugees back here, so let's hear it for Wolfgang!

I thought it touching that folks were waiting at train stations to welcome refugees & offer them accommodation in their own homes.

Now, 16 days after citizens of Donetsk and Luhansk were bussed out of their cities on a wholly bogus pretext (at the time at least), buses are to take beleaguered, starved and terrified citizens from Volnovakha and Mariupol.
Good news, although the facilitation of ethnic cleansing must be a side gain for the occupiers.
