Extraordinary that he now attacks Sunak for being 'a high tax chancellor' and blames the treasury for fiscal incompetence. One can only wonder why he didn't express these views when he had some say in government and wonder why Boris didn't heed what his close mate thought.

Yet another reason why absolutely nobody from the Johnson cabinet can stand for leadership, they’ve all got the Johnson kite mark, they’re tarnished. The leader must come from one of the 148 who went against Johnson in the VONC and the cabinet must be made up from them too.

Watching the BBC, their ticker says ‘senior Back Bencher Tom Tugendhat launches bid’.
Odd that they’re not mentioning other Tory back benchers….yet.
I don’t want to say ‘told you so’ as it’s early doors but he would be ideal.
Ex HM Forces, severe critic of Johnson and not stained by his legacy.
Even Sir Bob Neil, senior Tory MP said earlier that the party needs someone who is honest and up front from the start but has no previous history with this government, they need a total shift away and sea-change from Johnson.

There’s your man.
Jrm would make an excellent prime minister.

Lol, Lord Snooty? You’re clearly more deluded than he is, and he’s certifiable.
Indeed. Jrm would make an excellent prime minister. If you're a labour voter.

JRM has six children and he named the sixth one Sixtus: Sixtus Rees-Mogg. Poor mite. That tells you all you need to know about JRM's judgment.

AH is right. JRM is doubtless eccentric, but he's educated, he's cultured, he's astute, and he's no fool. Eccentricities aside, the weak-minded will always regard the strong with suspicion because they cannot comprehend the determined resolve that comes with strength of character - and that unnerves them. That results in the desperation of unreasoned attack and denigration - which is why we witness so much dross and puerility rather than intelligent, civil discussion.
I totally agree with AH, Jourdain, Naomi et al. I have always admired JR-M. There are endless YouTube vids of him demolishing his adversaries. Very clever guy.

The question is whether or not JRM would want to be PM. And, up until now, he has shown no desire whatsoever to do so. A follower rather than a leader, imho.
He’s a bit creepy :-(

AndroidBrothers, don't worry about it. Your name will probably be shortened at times too. It's what often happens with long usernames.
I wouldn't vote Con if JRM was PM. Tom Tugendhat......maybe.
JRM would be my choice too. We need a return to someone with more trad values. As for naming a son Sixtus so what, people think that's worse than Shardonnay or K-Lee for example?
J R-M obviously doesn't remember his Latin from school. He called his sixth child 'Sixtus', but the Latin for sixth is SEXTUS
