Tory MPs have just, without any mandate from the British electorate, voted in as representative of their party & the country, the first non-white leader of any European country in its history, that is to say back & before pre-Roman times. A man who is richer than any other European politician, a Hindu of a Christian country, who has recently applied for a green card to work in the US, & whose fabulously wealthy wife has had to be shamed into paying UK taxes, and who has i.m.o. the charisma of my front door mat (which, memo. badly needs replacing) & would have less chance of connecting with the working class people beyond the 'red Wall' than a covid- bearing Chinaman.

For the sake of the nation we have to hope it works out, but I have both doubts that, a globalist will progress on many of the things that need doing, or will retain the so called red wall at the next general election.

I dispute that his skin colour or religion should be of much consequence. Granted there will be a minority swayed by such issues but I trust one that isn't large enough to make any difference.

Compared to the last PM, Sunak has the charisma of Clark Gable / Cary Grant / George Clooney (but opinions may vary).

I don’t think that's a fair assessment. During Covid he set up the furlough scheme and he propped up small businesses - albeit at a cost that I, personally, felt was unsustainable and knew without doubt would leave the country with economic problems for years to come because contrary to what appears to be popular belief in some quarters, everything has to be paid for. He also told Liz Truss that her economic plans would result in soaring mortgage costs for ordinary people so he did 'connect with the working class'.

I know, roy, but extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary measures - and saving businesses saves jobs - and that saves a lot of people from hardship. There are other ways of thinking about it.

Exactly what Labour and Gordon Brown did before being kicked out of office, Naomi.

As for Rishi Sunak, the whole thing shows just what a bunch of two-faced hypocrites the Tories are, and are more interested in power than anything else.

There was all the gubbins of a leadership election where all the candidates were slagging each other off. Then it went down to a two horse race in which Sunak was overwhelmingly rejected in favour Laura Kuensberg. Oops, sorry, Elizabeth Truss. Then it went tits up for her, very rapidly, where she resigned on the street, then went back in and burst into tears behind the front door. Re-enter the, very recently rejected, Rishi Sunak who, suddenly, has acquired some kind of magical, mystical (?) qualities that were not apparent in the leadership election and appears to be the Emperor in his new clothes, which Tory MP's are keen for him to wear. But not all Tory MP's because, amazingly, some of them wanted to see The Return of Bojo the Clown, the man with no credibilty, who was massively rejected by the same Tories only a couple of months ago. This lot think they are going to turn this country into some sort of heaven just because they've gone through the summer pantomime season.

Well, none of these politicians has the slightest idea what life is like for ordinary people in this country. I know, I've said it before and it's just as true now as it's ever been. They are just career politicians with no experience of having to pay the rent/mortgage, bring children up, juggle work with other family things and be struggling with household bills.
It's all just agame of power to the politicians, and whether it's Sunak or anyone else, everyone can just go and whistle mate, because they only care about themselves.

What no one has mentioned, or probably failed to see, is that the real victors in this fiasco is Goldman Sachs, - they must be opening the Bollinger over there. They got Macron into France & now one of theirs into Britain. Investment bankers and bondholders are running the show folks, as seen when they got rid of Truss in short order.
