I think that the lady was asking where her family originated from. I think that is a genuine question, maybe not the time nor the place but it is hardly a major issue.

” Fulani accepted the apology and said “that no malice was intended.”

What have the ABers linking racism to Lady Susan's comments have to say about that?
My understanding of racism is different to so many abers. According to the 'verbatim' report given by Ms Headley there is no insult because of her race or colour. A query of where she was actually from does indicate racism.
Corby - we only have a one-sided report on the behaviour and speech used.
"What have the ABers linking racism to Lady Susan's comments have to say about that?"

That there was no racism!
Only a race to the bottom maybe?
LJ, in the absence of Lady Hussey's version of events, which she has had ample time to provide but has chosen not to do so, there is only one version of events upon which to make a judgement.
LJ, "My understanding of racism is different to so many abers."

What is your understanding of racism?
Corby, but //Fulani accepted the apology and said “that no malice was intended' // - so what is your conclusion?
"Lady Susan offered her sincere apologies for the comments that were made and the distress they caused to Ms Fulani."

She has recognized her comments caused distress, Ms Fulani said they were made without malice and the matter has been resolved, apparently to the satisfaction of both parties.
Oh well, at least the offended party has had her 15 minutes of fame.
Corby, we know that but about an hour ago you said //there is only one version of events upon which to make a judgement. // - so what is your judgement.
Her 15 minutes of fame may not yet be over.
No, methinks she will milk it for all its worth. Even if she has to libel, slander or otherwise malign the RF.

I remember years ago a bunch of Spaniards kept asking my mother and me where we were from. They would not have it that we were English and this went on for hours. We took it with the good nature with which it was intended.
Now Ms Fulani has acknowledged that the comments were made without malice, i wonder if she apologised for jumping to the wrong conclusion and condemning Lady Hussey unnecessarily?
Naomi - I think that would be highly unlikely.
Naomi - // Now Ms Fulani has acknowledged that the comments were made without malice, i wonder if she apologised for jumping to the wrong conclusion and condemning Lady Hussey unnecessarily? //

Since there was only one conclusion that Ms Fulani 'jumped to' - which was that lady Hussey was not willing to accept her response of being British to Lady Hussey's question about where she came from, and her conclusion was that Lady Hussey was being offensive.

There is only one 'conclusion' there, and it requires no 'jumping to it', it is laid out in from of Ms Fulani, and repeated more than once.

As for the 'condemnation' of lady Hussey, I think you'll find the heavy lifting there was undertaken fairly and squarely by the media, and the royal family, with their responses.
An inquiry about where someone comes may be impolite but it is not racism.

And if a person dresses in that way and wears her hair in that fashion it is done to attract attention and that is what LIW showed.

No more this has become very boring.
Zebu - // For even AH ... //

I'm not the barometer of opinion by which the rest of the views on the thread are measured, so there is no need to single me out for special attention.
Lady J - // An inquiry about where someone comes may be impolite but it is not racism. //

No it's not, but following up a perfectly simple answer with "But where do you really come from? Where are your people from?"

could be construed as racism very easily.
Lady CG - // Even if she has to libel, slander or otherwise malign the RF. //

That's a pretty tall, not to say baseless assessment of future behaviour, which you cannot know.

Ms Fulani clearly has no argument with the Royal Family - since she chose to accept an invitation to one of their events.

And on that basis, why on earth would she 'libel, slander, or otherwise malign them' when they have clearly taken her side of events as being correct, and responded accordingly.

I think you are letting your imagination get the better of you.
