'a raft of measures' in the article could have been put better.
The pure desperation of some to find a better life.
They could have found a life better than the one they left in Asia or Africa in France. They're not 'desperate'.
We will have to agree to disagree Naomi.
To go to these extremes then you have to be desperate.
Whatever they are leaving behind to go onto a rubber raft in the middle of winter is desperate.
They're chancers, RH. They spend an awful lot of money to get on those boats knowing that they're going to be picked up and ferried to England .... except this one wasn't.
As I said we will have to agree to disagree
I suppose they could always hang on to their documentation, buy a ferry ticket instead of paying thousands to criminals then take their chances through proper immigration channels.

Time the game was ended.
If they are desperate it's of their own choosing. They have already rejected and passed through at least one safe country.
I agree with Red on this, they are human beings. In their situation you would probably do the same.

The bad guys are the ones profiting from the misery of others and the desire to find a better life.

I should have added 'Europe' to my post at 08.58. We've ferried quite a lot of Albanians recently too - all fleeing nothing.
// suppose they could always hang on to their documentation, buy a ferry ticket instead of paying thousands to criminals then take their chances through proper immigration channels. //

by the end of the year, none of the cross-channel operators will accept bookings from foot passengers. doubtless the criminals could then switch to selling bicycles to migrants.....
...and the cycle continues.
// In their situation you would probably do the same. //

What is their situation, wolf? They're perfectly safe in France.
France has more race issues than we do.
The certainly would not be welcomed in France even less so than here.
Nonsense.
britain full to bursting, and society is breaking down wit the weight of it all, so just how many should we let in, and why should tax payers who disagree with paying for them have to, europe is safe, so it begs the question why here, answer freebies and the blackmarket economy and the drugs trade, oh and all the migrant rights groups and law firms sucking the tax payers dry.
"In their situation you would probably do the same."

not in any right mind would i try to cross the channel in a dinghy it is almost certain death
Crossing many 'safe' countries to get to the UK is not an act of desperation, the majority are fleeing from nothing!
Apply through the proper legal channels, it may be a long process but thats the way it is i'm afraid.
Well, I suppose it save sending the Navy out to shoot them as some proposed on a previous thread.
If they are found to be in the UK without a valid reason then they should be removed.
The Government need to sort this out but the problem is that France and other EU countries could not care less about UK since you know what.
