I think he realised his bank balance was about to suffer from possible cancelled contracts with Amazon and the press
I suspect he has realised he has killed the goose that laid the golden eggs and that tv companies are not likely to want him fronting their programmes, so felt the need to offer an apology. Too little, too late imho.

Apologising to this two was a major blunder, he apologised, his column was taken down, and the newspaper he writes for apologised too. But that didn’t work; the Sussexes said they didn’t believe him. So he said sorry again: saying he issued a direct apology at the time. The Sussexes rejected this too, and triumphantly seized on the apology as an admission of guilt. Now Amazon is said to be considering ending its involvement with him.

When Harry wore a Nazi uniform as fancy dress, the furore which followed led him to apologise, (though he has now cowardly tried to blame his brother & wife for his choice of dress ) & his apology was broadly accepted, when Jeremy apologises the this sad clown & his spouse say he doesn't really mean it.
Can you not see a difference between a fancy dress costume worn at a private party and a spiteful diatribe of hateful speech directed at a public figure? Hardly in the same league.
Ironic how Clarkson's apologists get upset about this.
He didn't apologise. He just continued to be a smartaaarse.
JC should have taken note from Danny Baker.

One sure way of losing your job and/or sponsorships is to lampoon H & M.
No, he shouldn't have apologised. He should have told them to go and do one!
nope.. as much as he is a plonker at times..he should not have grovelled so..
He should have said it was his truth.
It’s always good when people apologise.
He overstepped the mark so whatever the reason that should end the matter.
It’s not for us to tell someone they should not apologise. The language he used was violent and unacceptable

He decided to apologise, I wouldn't have done, but then agai I wouldn't have said what he did. The main issue here though is that they have refused to accept his apology with good grace, thus showing them up for what they are.
The language he used was hyperbole - that is, and always has been, JC's style. He didn't actually mean people should throw crap at her, because that would be mad.

As LJ has astutely pointed-out, perhaps he should have said it was 'his truth' because, as MM has demonstrated on more than one occasion, 'my truth' can be anything from a version of the truth all the way through to downright lies, but we're meant to believe it.
No - but he has and it has been rejected by the self-obsessed entitled pair - as gracious as ever. Tarring and feathering anyone?
Can't wait for Harry's reaction to this.

My knowledge of 'The Game of Thrones' is zero, but I heard somewhere that what he said is in reference to it, can anyone enlighten me please?
Some people in the media/celeb circuit seem to get away with saying the most appalling things, even 'national treasures' yet others have carte blanche to say what they like, when they like and just get patted on the head indulgently for being 'themselves'.
No.
I haven't seen it either, Khandro, but this seems to explain it

The bloke is a prize prat for thinking he could get away with writing that disgusting new article.
So the least he can do was apologise.
