It was a fluke majority. No doubt at all about that. It was the result of pathetic govt from the Tories and people were prepared to vote for anyone but them, much to the benefit of Labour.

Labour is there for up to 5 years in one form or another unless they chose to hold a GE but why would they?

Never say never.

What if everyone of the 625 constituencies had a recall petition to get rid of their mp?

"What if everyone of the 625 constituencies had a recall petition to get rid of their mp?"

That would be very unlikely.

Consituents cannot trigger a recall petition just because they no longer like their MP. A petition can only be called if their MP is either:

- convicted of an offence in the UK and receives a custodial sentence or is ordered to be detained, other than solely under mental health legislation

- suspended from the House of Commons for 10 sitting days or 14 calendar days

- convicted of providing false or misleading information for allowance claims under the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009.

As dodgy as many of them might be, it is unlikely that all 650 (note, not 625) or even a sizeable majority of them would qualify under one of the above.

It's unfortunate but, unless something really unusual happens,  the country is largely stuck with a Labour government until 2029. If they haven't already, by that time people will have learned what it's like living under a proper Labour government.

The last time such an horrendous experience ended was in 1979 so nobody much under the age of about 65 will have any idea what that's like. They will find out over the coming four years.

I've just signed - just short of 1.7million now...

New Judge, thanks for that my friend.

TTT "FPTP does throw up these anomolies but it's better than any form of PR."

You keep saying this but what evidence is there that it's true?

If a PR system delivered MP numbers according to the % of votes given we would likely have a Lab/Lib coalition with about 45% of seats & the combined Con/Reform opposition with 37%.

Wouldn't the Liberals influence rein in some of the more extreme Labour ideology?

davebro: "You keep saying this but what evidence is there that it's true?" - look at the countries that have it. They end up with a coalition and a GE every year, total paralysis.

It'sma frutile exercise, SIR 2TK wont take a blind bit of notice, he, and his cohorts, dont care they are trashong the countyr as its ideology before Country.

I will put my name to it thoguht simply to show frustration and it might atart to causes concern with the MPS who had a slim majority (unless they are only in it for one term).

Bottom line is Labour are not going anywhere though, but hope fully it will cement their demise forthe next 20 years so our decendants dont have to suffer.  I there is anythoing left after mad Milliband and Rachael from complaints have finished.

I wonder what the biggest petitoin has ever been, anyone know?

I think it's the BBC's "elephant in the room"!

https://www.electoral-reform.org.uk/which-european-countries-use-proportional-representation/

I think most of the countries listed have pretty stable administrations.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly2r4g98gjo

At last the BBC breaks its silence!

//The petition has got more than 100,000 signatures, so the subject is likely to be debated in Parliament,//

Make that 2 MILLION you dolts!

2,300,000 so far.

//Speaking to ITV, Sir Keir said: "Look, I remind myself that very many people didn't vote Labour at the last election.//

Try - THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DIDN'T VOTE LABOUR.

^

Which likely explains the numbers signing the petition.

at least the labour party know they are despised by so many, one catastrophe after another, reeves and milipede ineptitude.

Whenever I see Milliband on TV I always think "Where's Gromit"!🤣

davebro3, i see edd the head as george formby after that ukulele video err turned out nice again with that big toothy grin.
