OK OK I know this is going to make me sound stupid, but what exactly do these people actually want?? Why are the terrorists so keen on murdering us? If they hate us so much why do they live in Britain and America? I honestly don't understand what they want!

Don't get so cocky, people have been chucked out of Britain before because of their ancestry, I remember a few years back a woman who was born and bred here had Norwegian parents, and she was deported to Norway, so if you aren't truly british or your family hasn't been here for a few generations, I wouldn't say you were totally safe!

madein1978, yes, they don't wear robes etc, or have beards or preach their holy book word for word and all that- . Most moslems who are moderates prefer integrating in with the society that they are living in - i'm talking about people who have settled in the country many generations back. These ppl are open minded and don't want a religious war, they just want to get on with life and are totally against the terrorism carried out in the name of their religion. To label the moderate moslems as being the same as extremists is just being ignorant.

What exactly have our governments been up to in the Middle East over the past 20 years? Have they been messing around through diplomatic means to suppress the price of oil? Or perhaps funding insurgents against military dictatorships in order to gain economic advantage in regions where we have oil interests?

If a murderer kills someone, the first thing the police do is ask 'Why did they do it?'

Why aren't we asking 'Why are the terrorists willing to blow themselves (and us) up?"

sp1814 I agree with your points as far as western government policies towards those countries are concerned. To that I will also add that the western goverment has been active in messing with the middle east much longer than the last 20 years purely for their own interests.

madein1978, I have been away from this thread for a while and came back to discover what I can only describe as a personal attack on me in one of your posts. I'm not trying to score points over you and this will not be a slanging match but there are a couple of things I wish to say....

1) I have not called you or anyone else racist in this thread and was merely entering into an intelligent debate with Bill Barlow where we were both expressing our honest opinions on this matter. The term racist may have been used out of context by others on this thread and what you are displaying should really be referred to as extreme religious prejudice.

2) Yes we have had an argument on another thread about 6 months ago (in which you actually confessed yourself to be racist) but what does that have to do with anything today.

3) I notice you also resort to having a go at others who express opinions that differ from your own and then lambast them for doing exactly the same thing. I find that a somewhat hypocritical act.

OK, supposing I were to accept that muslims were the peaceful good people you say they are, and tomorrow some of these people declared jihad in Britain and carried it out, by sending a suicide bomber with a couple of pounds of C4 strapped to their chest to every city in the UK, and the 'moderates' were observed to be quietly jubilant about this, what then? I'll tell you a true story, this is not prejudice, racism or anything other than what I saw, A cab office in town near where I live which is run by muslims, Tuesday September 11th 2001, Its on the news that a jumbo jet has flown into The World Trade Towers in New York, the aforementioned muslims are jumping up and down cheering and shouting stuff in arabic, in full view of anybody who happened to walk in. Now they were people whom you describe and defend, average looking people not apparently that into their religion, and you wonder why I'm the way I'am, when you see this kind of thing and more besides what am I supposed to think? Aw, bless them?????? Come On!

I don't claim to be without my own personal prejudices, I think every one has them its just that I personally choose to control them and not broadcast any I may have as I realise it is wrong to have them.

Well then they are not moderate and peaceful Muslims but just because you personally witnessed a handful of them rejoicing in the September 11th events does not give you the evidence needed to condemn the entire following of Islam.

I'll tell you a true story, I witnessed three white men start a fight with and the beat seven shades of sh*t out of a man of Asian origin. There were several other white people watching and laughing about it. Now by your logic because this handful seemed to be "rejoicing" in this event I should proclaim all other white people as violence loving racist.
