Well looks like the majority of the country had snow last night.

Choosing my words carefully, are we still allowed to say WHITE snow, or is this politically incorrect.

Can you think of anything else that we have left that is OUT of the clutches of the PC brigade

what are you talking about?
Well I still say 'Black bin liners' & 'Black shoe polish', cos that's what colour they are!
Why say 'white snow' what other colour is there

I don't really understand your question either laurence.

It's either Snow Flakes or just plain Snow.

Do you just mean 'you daren't mention black or white'?

Yellow, never eat yellow snow.
Oh dear, here we go again. The word 'black' has never been banned by a public authority. No-one has banned the use of 'blackboards' etc. Occasionaly an over-enthusistic individual has overstepped the mark, but I defy anyone to produce evidence that any authority in this country has banned 'black'.
And by evidence I don't mean an unsubstantiated story in the Mail or the Sun!
but hal, if it's in the sun it must be true!
Question Author

my apologies people, a local radio station this morning said its very white out their this morning {referring to the snow, he then realised what he said and commented, oh dear i'll probably have the PC brigade onto me now.

It was tongue in cheek by him but i could'nt help but think that some PC was taking him serious.

hope this explains the latter part of the question

I'm going to write this as simply as I can...this whole 'it's PC gone mad' rubbish is something that right wing journalists have been using to fool dim people into thinking that non-white people want special treatment.

Please let's leave it alone and avoid being taken for a ride. If a radio DJ said, 'It's white outside' and then followed it up with a comment about the 'PC brigade' he or she is probably a fool who said that because his/her brain is empty, but his/her living room is full of faux-onyx table lighters.

Sickening.

Now we know the reason for your Q laurence - I agree, this PC thing is becoming very tiresome now. I just stick to what I've always believed in, Black-White, who cares!

I think you have missed the point there smudge. I think sp18 is saying that rightwingers are trying to discredit legitmate ideas, decisions, laws that try to address discrimination, by trivialising the whole issue and focusing on obviously stupid issues like the use of the word black. (sorry sp if I have got that wrong). I try to avoid offence - there are words I don't use that used to be in common usage but which are simply no longer acceptable because they cause distress.
If that's true hal then why is there so much ammo for them, it can't be all bull can it. I mean the weird stories we hear almost daily about the latest but of lunacy, usually from a local authority are not made up are they?

Hal - no...you've understood my posting completely. When I hear people complaining about 'PC gone mad', it winds me up because all they ever see is the outskirts of PC - the ridiculous stories that anyone in their right mind would dismiss.

Problem is - once we go along that road, everything PC becomes ridiculous...and we feed right into the hands of the right wing press.

It's both very clever, and very stupid at exactly the same time.

No, I didn't miss the point hal - I'm well aware at what's going on & Loosehead has hit the nail on the head!

Including not eating yellow snow, he, he!

Well loosehead and smudge - show me the evidence!

Poltical Correctness - The biggest non-story of the last decade. Discuss.

It's all a myth. No-one has ever believed in political correctness. Ever. But for some reason, people who hate political correctness think they're up against some sort of army. The occasional councillor has a mad moment after a couple of sherries and realsises that he hasn't submitted any new ideas of late, so comes up with some barmy idea about changing a nativity scene or something, and then the whole process starts again, with people flailing around in the dark trying to argue against a non-existent opponent. When will it stop!

Well just one of many, but about the numerous cases of crosses being removed from various places becvause they might offend non christians. Are you saying they are made up by the tabloids? Or did that happen and you are saying that's not PC lunacy but sensible policy?

It's not just PC things either what about the health an saftey mafia? This week there where pictures of a grave yard where the headstones had been supported by scafolding in case they fall on someone, did they fake that? There are lots of examples of different aspects of the same thing.

I know the press do create hysteria but they wouldn't be able to if they had no ammo.

At the risk of digressing, the Health & Safety situation is entirely of our own collective making.

So did you not want a safe working environment then, loosehead? Do you want to go back to the times when employers didn't give a toss about their employee's safety?

It was an attempt to reduce the hundreds of deaths every year that occurred in industrial workplaces (when we used to have industry, that is), construction sites and other places of work.

Latterly, spurious civil claims against employers for their contributory negligence in a paper-clip accident or whatever, have merely driven H&S law further in that direction. It is us who are the "Health & Safety Mafia" with our compo claims for paper cuts, the laws are merely adapting to the way we behave.

Getting back to the PC thing - who are 'The PC Brigade' anyway? Can I join up like the Boy's BrigadeOr is it just invented by certain aspects of the press?

The company I work for didn't have a 'Christmas Party'. We had a 'Winter Party'. Is that "PC gone mad"? Should I phone the Daily Mail right now?
