So we are told immigration is good for the country.

But today on the BBC web site I read:

Sharp council tax rises may be needed in the next few years to fund housing and education for immigrant families, says the Local Government Association.

Yet again the indiginous population are paying for this (and previous) governments lax control of immigration.

Council tax in England has soared by 96%* over the last ten years reveals Key Retirement Solutions. This is more than three times the increase in the average income of a pensioner couple, in that period (27%).

This is before they had immigrants to blame !!!!!
Now should we not call for the head of the person who made the government release a statement that 'only 14,000 east europeans were expected in the first year after EU expansion'. the total is more like 600,000. That mandarin in home office was in cloud cuckoo land and the whole of south east would have told him/her that. But hey...you want a bigger europe then you will have it....in your towns and villages. Best thing to do is move to Albania where the weather/houses everything is cheap. dont blame the east europeans they are a darn sight more hard working than your average council house occupant in the UK.
Immigration into this country is running at a quarter of a million a year EVERY year.

At day 1. these immigrants are entitled to somewhere to live free of charge, full health benefits free of charge, schooling for their kids free of charge and of course social security to keep them.

They have not contributed ONE PENNY to pay for the above.

At the same time Tory Bliar tells British people who have worked for 50 years that they shouldnt expect to retire at 65 they should work until they are 70 because there isnt enough money in the kitty.

If a man has paid into the system for fifty years how can he not have a pension.

If you cant work out where the money went scroll up a few inches.
Okay...let's just get a frame of reference here. We're talking about legal migrants, who come over here to work, pay taxes and NI contributions...which go to pay for pensions.

Yes, it's true that they could claim benefits, but haven't you noticed that the immigrants who come here have an amazing work ethic?

I've used East European builders and removal firms, and I couldn't praise them highly enough. Conscientious, hard working and honest.

Hasn't anyone noticed the number of East Europeans who come here and work in bars and restaurants? They are paying taxes which go to pay for our pensions. Believe me, they're not going to stay here. They work for better wages here for a few years, then the majority return home.

I mean, who would want to be an immigrant in this country when you have the indigenous population blaming them for every woe under the sun?
When I turned 16 (or about then) I too was intitled to all the above benifits and my contribution to the country, zero. I had just happened to have been born into it.

Oh I also had free education and health care upto that point.

Why is being the indiginous population any more of a right to benefits than a non indiginous person? Is it really some kind of birth right?
Yes Richie but I dare say your parents and their parents paid into the pot.
And the fact that they paid into the system was because they happened to be born here - ie an accident of birth.

I'm married to one of these 'immigrants', and he has worked and contributed to the system since he came here, since in his country, people are far more hardworking than many people here, often working 12 hour shifts, 6 days per week. Nor has he taken a penny out of the UK system, to which he is by now more than entitled to do so.
sp1814...it was percieved that most Polish and other east european workers would use the Uk as a means to earn money and set up back in their home country. It was the intention of even the migrants. But now that is not the case. having lived here for a year or 2 and then when they go back to their power cuts, shoddy roads and substandard infrastructures, most of them are making life changing decisions to stay in the Uk permanently. It happened to your and my fore fathers. The homesickness bites badly. but when they go back for a holiday, reality strikes....... as time goes on they will always compare home with Uk and Uk will win. So what is young east europeans will turn into children and parents and then the councils will know what has hit them. It will take decades for the european integration to bring the east european countries (poland, lithuania, slovakia and soon romania) to come into the EU standard of living. Until then Blairs policies will have ensured that all of us bear the brunt of integration.

You obviously think all immigrants are Muslims, Ward-Minster. Your lack of information and your xeonophobia is pathetic. Incidentally, my husband has had his wages frozen by the arrival of Eastern Europeans - that doesn't turn us into xenophobes - it just points out that whatever decisions are taken by the govt they are to suit the capitalist economy.
Yes WM you certainly do.

At what point in time and by who was it decreed that Britain should be financially responsible for everybody on this planet that wanted a better deal without having to pay for it???

Wake up Britain for ***** sake
He 'lets them in'. WM, because it forces wages down, thus helping control inflation.

Final paragraph. Reference to Blair letting 'them' in; scan over asylum seekers then quickly to 'mosques'. However, I'm not looking at this thread anymore, as it's a deliberate attempt to stoke up anti-immigrant feelings and allow xenophobes yet more media space than they already have.
I really dont get the Us and Them mentality. If it takes decades for the integration to bring other countries up to EU standard of living, then so be it. We (humans) are going to be living on this planet for a lot longer. And then all our ancestors will benefit. So we have it a bit tough for a while, maybe even all of our small lives.

There is a huge difference in world poverty/prosperity and if I live in a time where some of that is change then I will die happy.

WM. I question how many of these criminal actives did you see the documentation of the criminal, to deduces they where immigrants. Can you really tell by looking at them?
Mr Pippa employs groundworkers, plumbers, sparkies, etc who are mostly Polish, Portugese & Irish.

They work damned hard. They don't skive off because they 'need' to go the pub, don't leave early to watch the footie, take pride in their work & are lighter on the purse strings. Don't get me wrong, they aren't 'slave labour' but they are grateful for the work and earn every quid.

One of the problems we have is the lack of training schemes and apprenticeships for British kids which pay a decent wage. No school/college leaver can earn enough to live independently, and this lasts a good few years too. The day that housing costs & utility bills are in line with salaries things will start looking up. In the meantime we continue to be bled dry..what choice do we have but to employ a cheaper work force?
sorry not ancestors, (children)

W~M...come on - everything you've seen immigrants do, you've also seen British born people do.

Also, surely market rates dictate salaries? This is the basis of free market enterprise!

Your 'swim' remark is classic Ward~Minter and I'm in a superb mood today and shall not be drawn on it.
