muslim area !!!!
52 Answers
what gives a "foreigner" the right to tell the British Home Secretary that he has gone to a "muslim area" and insulted the muslim community ????
this Muslim area is Leyton, East London. the capital city of England.
extremist or not, England/Britain is firstly for the British.. there can never be a compramise....
these people come here at our expence and DEMAND rights and privelages they would never get in their country of birth...
my mind boggles at what is expected from the government by these people..

Your personal contacts suggest that what you see on television isn't representative of all Islam. Television cameras can't simply ignore demonstrations (they'd be accused of suppressing dissent), so they show them; but it's up to each of us to put them in the context of what we know from our own lives. The streets are not in fact full of mad mullahs slitting the throats of Christian babies. At least not in my part of suburban Rockall.
I believe that the problem is that many muslims see them selves as Muslim 1st then Iraqi, Iranian, Syrin, Saudi etc etc 2nd and only happen to live in England (even if they were born here) This causes ghettos of Muslim only people who only sitck to their own area and make no effot to intergrate. These areas slowly turn into a ''little Iran'' or whatever, i.e. only shops catering for the ethnic group, street signs changed to their native language etc (if you don't believe me go to Southall W.London) This is a perfect breeding ground for extremism, amoungs people who don't see themselves as British, but at odds with Britain.
admarlow makes a very interesting point there...there have always been areas in large cities that are home to immigrant community (for instance, in London - Brixton, Peckham, Golders Green), but the difference with mainly Muslim communities is that language and custom is so far removed from English culture, that integration becomes extremely difficult.
Admarlow....., Howmany iraninans do you know in this country that have not assimiliated to the larger part of the society???
Yes there are iraninan shops but then again there are arabic shops, chinese, japanese, polish, jewish, italian, etc, etc.
For your information Southall has a larger proportion of Indians than muslims. Indians by large practice Buddism not Islam. Are you saying that peace loving indians who happen to live in Siouthall by a great proportion prepare a perfect breeding ground for extremism?

admarlow, of course you can be Indian and Muslim. Before partition, India contained both religions (actually, I believe Hinduism is the main religion there). Indian Muslims who migrated to Britain before then will still be Muslims but not Pakistanis. And not all Muslims went to Pakistan, though most did.
I think sp1814 is onto something about the language, though. Most immigrant communities gradually lose their own language (you don't hear much Yiddish any more), but Muslim children must always learn Arabic to study the Koran. They all speak English too, however.

The question is "What gives the foreigner the right etc". Part of that right stems from John Reid's absolutely pathetic performance when confronted by a man dressed in a white bed sheet and sleeping cap speaking clearly and loudly. He was frightened pure and simply. Scared. He had an absolutely first class chance in front of the camera to demonstrate a British Home Secretary with back bone and spirit and what did we get? An ex-alcoholic pain in the bottom Scots former shop steward who is yellow right through. Would Margaret Thatcher, Norman Tebbitt, Michael Howard etc behaved like that. Not half, they would have tucked his bed sheet up right up his jumper until the tears came to his eyes and sent him running. As for the Muslim grizzlers on here, remember the words from centuries ago "Whoever loves the Prophet loves the Muslim. The Muslim is human but not humane. Anything is acceptable so long as it is in secret". You claim to know the Muslim? What fools.
With all respect but do not think that you have answered my question. How many iranians do you know of in this country that have not assimiliated to the larger part of the society?
I have not made something to suit my argument. But you have. This is what you said:

I said that the greater proportion of people in Southall area are of indian origin than other ethnic communities. Indians by large are not muslim but as jno pointed out hindu.

What are you talking about??? In which post here did I say that mixing with people from one ethnic group is a good thing? ABers can someone please help?
On your point about Iraninans. I thought you will come up with such an answer. That just about proves the point. And ofcourse you are entitled to your opinion. You are only assuming Iranians do not mix in with others because in your own little world you have not known of any. Hence that must be true. Doh.
What I was looking for was a more intelligent answer but what I got was an unsubstantiated statement based on personal ranting. Never mind.
Sorry funkymoped this post has become side tracked from your question. I think knowing that this muslim heckler had previous terrorist links, he should not have been allowed to the conference let alone express his 'extremists' opinion and thereby causing a wider rift with all the muslims.

You've badly missed the point, keyvan. The man in the bed sheet merely expressed the actual view of Muslim's. Nothing extremist. Just the commonly held view of Muslim's. The wider rift with Muslim's is caused by the frightened John Reid being unable to over ride these by saying firmly and with persuasive conviction that Muslim's residing in the UK must integrate.
