For those that can look past those lovely, desirable character traits, he even stole his material from other comedians (Mike Reid on 'The Comedians' being a specific example).
A truly disastrous loss of a fine, upstanding man who showed us the full potential of being human. Or maybe not.

Bernard Manning was the least racist person in this country, it was just in his act that he made fun of racism, if you went to his club in Manchester which i did many times, you would have see loads of Asians and Africans laughing their heads off. you would see him having a drink and chatting with everyone no matter what colour they were. most comics pinch gags off other comics, Mike Reid tells lots of Chubby Brown jokes in his act. RIP Bernard,

Where does one buy bunting from nowadays?
I absolutely hate this about myself, but I've been looking forward to this day more than I've been looking forward to the release of the new Kylie album.
It's not a good thing to celebrate the passing of another human being, but Lord - this is the first time I've done a cartwheel since I was 15.

Hmmm...wonder how Jim Davidson's health is at the moment?
I feel absolutely rotten writing stuff like that, but you know what? Bernard Manning has said a lot worse such as
What do you call a busful of n*****s at the bottom of the ocean?
A damn good start.
Nah - I hope they're stoking up the fires of hell for him, and I hope they're right up to date with their gas bill.
I mourn him not.

Can you do me a favour - can you re-type the sentence 'Bernard Manning was the least racist person in this country' again.
When you've done that, go to www.youtube.com and type in 'Bernard Manning' and 'Mrs Merton'.
Watch the clip and listen to his response to her assertion, "You're just a big racist aren't you?"
Once you've watched it, re-read your sentence and ask yourself, whether you actually think that Bernard Manning was the least rac...
...ah who cares. He's dead.
It's irrelevent now.

You miss the point of Rising Damp and Til Death Us Do Part.
Alf Garnett and Rigsby were always made to look the fool because they were idiots.
Bernard Manning was a completely different proposition. He never set himself up as the fall guy.
If he was a product of his time (the 70s) why on earth was his act the same throughout the 80s, 90s and up to the present day?

sp1814, being a racist was Bernard Mannings image in the 70s, he just played up to it when he was on telly, but like most showbiz people he was nothing like that in real life. if it is true that you did a cartwheel at the news of someones death just because you did'nt like them, its a pity you did'nt break your neck while doing it.
