I see that the gay couple who were refused a double room in a B&B have won their case and been awarded £1800 damages. I'm not sure of the background facts, so can't really comment, but the hoteliers were found to have acted unlawfully. Does anyone know which law they actually broke and what the damaged were in respect of?

I wasn't referring specifically to you, more to the b&b owners, I used 'raging' as a little play on words because it's usually used when talking about particularly camp gay men.
To answer your 2nd question they shouldn't have the right to treat one person differently to another based solely on the grounds of sexual orientation. Your 1st question is a bit too vague because it would surely depend on me refusing you in the 1st place, to what I was refusing you and on what grounds.
What have the gays got in common with Islamic terrorists....they both want to espouse their cause against the wishes of the majority of this country. I wish they would both put a lid on it!

/// this isn't putting restrictions on all heterosexuals, the majority of heterosexuals aren't such raging homophobes! ///

If you are referring to me, you are completely out of order.

Why have you classed me a raging homophobic?

Nowhere have I been against homosexuals, only about the freedom to accept them or not.

This should be a freedom of choice, just like it is to accept or not accept any other person. ////////

Hmmm - interesting - one one hand you say that you have no issues with kids calling each other racist names, but you get annoyed at being called homophobic. What happened to your 'this is a free country' attitude
Mick do you have any evidence to back this up?

of course not, it is my opinion. Have you looked at the website of the hotel redhelen?
There was fair warning on the website if you tried to book a room.

What do yo mean? Are you saying that gays, by demanding equal treatment under law are somehow aligned to terrorists?

I suspect that you yourself may be in a minority there, not the majority you refer to.
^ There is *now*, Mick, there is now...............

rov1100 - And I wish that you would shut the heck up.............seems like neither of us is going to get what we want.

You asked:

"And you yourself agree with each and every law, do you?"

Whether someone agrees with every law is irrelevant. You can protest, you can argue, you can lobby, but if you choose to break that law, then you will be taken to court.

Simple as that really.

If you open your home as a commercial enterprise, then you are bound by the Equalities Act.

Say if this couple had a home bakery business...do you think they could flout every health and safety law, because it's their own kitchen?

Yes, it's their own home, but it's a B&B - so should they be exempt from fire safety procedures?

You cannot simply cherry pick the rules you're going to run your business by.

So, the it has been ruled that the law was broken, whether you agree with it or not. Does anyone know on what basis the £1800 damages was calculated? Does it cover the couple's costs for alternative accommodation, the court case, or what?
I'm sure that you'll find that racists are now a minority in this country and it is apalling that there is no legislation to protect them ;c)

cheers Jack - I only just saw his reply to me and that was exactly what I was going to add.

I saw on Sky News that the couple could've been awarded up to £5000. In cases such as these, the judge will take into account factors such as intent, hurt feelings and costs. You would have to check the court summary to ascertain how the figure was arrived at.
Amazing, innit? I might get "done" at a workplace for wearing a crucifix in case it upsets other, non Christian, Faiths? Or, there again, unless I'm of the Sikh Faith, I'd get "done" for not wearing a crash helmet whilst riding a motorbike on a public road? Or, I could get reported at a school sports day if I was caught photographing my own kids even? Or, if I'm "seen" to somehow offend another pixel on here I could be banned? Or, if I refused to pay my council tax on a point of principle, I could be imprisoned, whilst persistent criminals hardly ever are? Or, if my deeply held religious views are considered "offensive" to individuals who indulge in unnatural acts, I could end up also with a criminal record, and be fined into the bargain? Or, I could be a convicted kiddie fiddler given anonimity, succour and funds at public expense despite having been convicted of one of the most heinous crimes imaginable to man?

Not only that, I could be a perpetrator of vile acts yet still be seen by lots of individuals as some kind of "victim"?

Funny old world, innit?
They should have come here ...

(most of the guests do, apparently ... ha ha ha)

(This is where I live! Well, not actually IN the hotel, but not far away).
what are these unnatural acts eyethenkyew?
Are you still banging on, ETY ?

Haven't you heard the saying, "It is better to remain quiet and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." ?

I sincerely hope that your threads are allowed to remain as an example of your complete stupidity.

Some interesting points, none of which are actually in any way true.

Hang on...I think I've just made an idiot of myself...

You're winding us up aren't you!

Just re-read your previous missives, and I cam see you're playing devils advocate.

Well done Sir. Bait well and truly taken.
///Amazing, innit? I might get "done" at a workplace for wearing a crucifix in case it upsets other, non Christian, Faiths?/// The only person who I know that was 'done' was a BA worker where the rule is that NO jewellery is to be worn (nothing about faith).

///I could get reported at a school sports day if I was caught photographing my own kids even/// The Information Commissioner says different: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11945081

/// I could be a convicted kiddie fiddler given anonimity, succour and funds at public expense despite having been convicted of one of the most heinous crimes imaginable to man? /// Because idiots try and take the law into their own hands

///Or, if my deeply held religious views are considered "offensive" to individuals who indulge in unnatural acts, I could end up also with a criminal record, and be fined into the bargain/// If you are running a business then you need to follow the laws regardless of your personal beliefs (I think I will mention to the Revenue Service that my personal belief is that I shouldn't pay tax).

Can I suggest that if you don't like this country (and it sounds like you don't) you emigrate somewhere? Western Australia is good.... :-) (sledging!)
Why do the apologistic invertebrates either mock those of us with sincerely held views or else invite us to either clam up or go elsewhere? Can only imagine some kind of insecurity on their parts? An unwillingness to accept views different to their own?

Mmmmhhhhhhhhh......what's that saying.......aaahhh, yes......"The truth hurts".
