Gay couple in B&B

I see that the gay couple who were refused a double room in a B&B have won their case and been awarded £1800 damages. I'm not sure of the background facts, so can't really comment, but the hoteliers were found to have acted unlawfully. Does anyone know which law they actually broke and what the damaged were in respect of?

People have outlined exactly what they think is wrong with what you're saying. You've not resonded at all - you've just ranted and raved some more. I am now sure that ETY's post are tongue-in-cheek. I actually think it's good that someone can post quite 'left field' opinions, especially as the majority here seem to be quite relaxed in their views on this story.

I understand the sentaments of the gay couple wanting to stay in a hotel. That in itself is fairplay.

However Stonewall targeted this elderly couple and (probably?) bankrolled the gay couple. If not then they set it up. This gay couple didn't just happen by chance to want to stay there. They didn't by chance take them to court. This doesn't make it fare in my eyes.

If stonewall or any organisation does this it always leaves a sour taste.

The police are in a lot of cases, repremanded for entrapement. What about this couple? They were spacificly targeted.

The real tragedy of all this is that an elderly couple were deliberately targeted and "stung" by this pair of unnatural activists who, with the alleged assistance of their organisation, Stonewall, sought them out with a view to exposing their long established policy of catering for properly married couples only.

They clearly had this despicable agenda in mind when they singled out this tiny B+B, made their booking by phone, then threw their wrists in the air in mock horror when informed of the marital policy on arrival. How did they find out about it (or, more to the point, deliberately pick it) in the first place? Online of course, and the website states its marital policy clearly. Why not pick somewhere else then? Sheer vindictiveness, of course.

Hope they feel smug about having ruined not only the little B+B business of this elderly couple, but also their lives. No doubt they feel it was all worth it. Despicable way to treat a pair of God fearing OAPs.

I've yet to see any sympathy for the OAPs from the vast amount of posters on here who are being far too busy hiding behind self righteous proclamations to the effect ("Oooohhhh, but they broke the law, so they deserve to be punished") etc etc.

The man is now in hospital with heart problems. They will have to give up the B & B as if not then every gay couple in the country will try and book in so they can get a nice little hand out from the State. It is odd though that they had no objection to the dog!!!
