MM & KM Links April 2009 [Week 4]
59 Answers
We are now approaching Week 4 in the reign of Baron Brian of Norn Iron. This will be his last week and we all have eyes on several entrants who could win the glory and be permitted to set the MM Links throughout the month of May. Please remember that this game has been on-going for well over two years now and in that time we have had over 25 different champion/setters. Consequently, when choosing the next MM Champion, I am looking for a reasonable compromise between "predictive skills" and "fresh blood".

In this respect, Baron Brian has been a natural ~ in spite of his initial misgivings.
As usual, the words to be linked will be posted on AB at 9.00 (sharp) and many bonus points are picked off during the first five minutes of play! Newcomers should note that there is a bonus point for each entrant who predicts a new word (or predicts the same word within two minutes of the first predictor). I hope thats clear!
You need also to look out for the sister game (called KM Links) that kicks off around 07.00am (or earlier) depending on whoever is first to solve the Herculis Crossword in The Daily Telegraph! That can be a bit of a variable feast, but it attracts many entries and scores can be much higher since bonus points are not linked to the time of posting. That truly international version of the Links Game is watched over by the Hostess with the Mostest in the form of seekeerz (from the Land of Oz). She takes responsibility for keeping law and order, and seeing that fair play prevails. She will process each prediction and maintain the League Table for the KM Links. It is gratifying to note that seekeerz is one of the leaders in the MM Links Game, but I dread to think how things were to operate were she to win (vis-a-vis the time lapse between us)!
Me? Im crofter keeper of the scores for MM Links for my sins and I process the predictions and maintain the League Tables for the parallel game.

Hi everyone and a special welcome to Tearinghair, it's nice to welcome someone new into the Shrubbery.I am in the middle of doing my ironing, I prefer to do it at night whilst watching TV. Pauline has gone to watch Stockport playing football, so don't know if she will be around later.
I have got nil points so far this month so am not too worried about winning!!!!! Would love to get just one point though!!!

tearinghair, welcome to the dragon's lair, don't be fooled by evsajo pretend descriptions of domestic normality! If she is ironing, ask further not what she is ironing but who. As to Pauline watching a Stockport "kickabout" the same question applies, though I wonder if she meant to write "Stockpot" for whatever she has in that cauldron she is seen stirring every Friday night in the Shrubbery. They all pretend to be little pussycats but the only person who has been known to survive close acquaintance with the Harpies of the Shrubbery is sarumite who seems to have some sort of non-aggression pact with them.
Good luck with both the KM and MM links tomorrow.
The result of the MM links competition has me on tenterhooks, will it be an insomniac labrador or an Egyptian Queen or a dark horse from elsewhere in the field??
crofter the keeper of the scores will let us know on Sunday evening the depths of whose mind we will have to plumb in May.
