Why are shops so against giving a receipt, I have to ask every time for a receipt, and every time they pull a face ~ Idiots I hope you get this sorted out. Good luck

Do you mean if you're returning an item?
did you pay for something with a credt card? It might appear on your statement.
Did you buy it or was it a gift? If you paid by card check your statement and bank account they might accept those as proof
I don’t understand the question - store credit for what?
Presumably for a returned item.
Stores should give receipts, not default to hoping you don't ask for one.
Have you bought something you want to return for a refund?
If you have no receipt or other proof of purchase such as a credit card statement the store may offer you a credit voucher to spend on something else in the shop.

Be aware that if you have simply changed your mind about the item the store is not legally obliged to accept it back unless you bought it online, by post or telephone.

The problem is what i have is now slightly damaged so i dont think i can return anymore

but yes i bought an item and it was faulty but now i accidentally damaged its case i think im stuck with it
If you've damaged it you're stuck with it. Buy another.
Just say it was damaged out of the box as well as faulty.

You've nothing to lose in trying.

Douglas unfortunately i dont think that will work my best bet it to just suck it up and buy new and get receipt then put the old in the new packaging and return it
poorclare, I think it's all about trying to cut down on waste - and costs - so not a bad idea. Shops will provide a receipt if requested.
Also a credit card, debit card or store card transaction is a legal proof of purchase
roadman, when did you buy it, what is it and how did you damage it?
I’m always asked if I want a receipt, can’t think of an instance when I wasn’t. I’m trying to go paperless so more often than not I decline.
That is all very well IF you use debit/credit or store cards and
don't suffer from memory loss.
I have never been asked if I want a receipt ~ I am asked if
I want to pay 45p for a bag Must admit I remember to bring
an extra carrier with me.
I am off now to do some shopping and fill my carrier bag (s)

Hope you all have a pleasant day.

C :-)
I wonder how it's cutting down on waste or costs if it's already coming out of the till as they ask you.
Like Vagus, I'm usually asked if I would like a receipt.
Depends on the stores policy, how long have you had the item?
For example , when I worked in a well known store, we refunded to the way it was originally purchased, without a receipt then a store voucher would be given , if the item was damaged then we’d give a cash refund ,again, it depends on the policy of where you bought the item
Just another thing to beware of re receipts. Last week I purchased a voucher for £50 in Roman (the store not currency lol) for a friend's birthday. I asked for the receipt to enclose it with the voucher so she would know how much it was for. When I got home I noticed it said on the receipt "this voucher is not valid after 13th January". What a cheek!!! Anyone would think it was a free offer. What does anyone else think of this? I certainly won't be buying Roman vouchers anymore.
