just read in the news about a primary school cancelling their nativity play in case it offends the muslim students.

Am I missing something here or this the most unbelievable thing I ever heard?? Regardless of the fact that the child may have come from another country of their parents/grandparents have come from another country - they have still come from another country and if our customs and beliefs "offend" them I know where they should go!

Am I alone here?

Totally in agreement with you Richie.

It was the bit about 'if no Muslims living in the country' that kind of gave me the impression that you didn't want Muslim people living in this country.
Well, your original post was not attempting to generate outrage about what Hitler did to the Jews, so its a pretty stupid analogy to offer.

And, since you brought up the topic - In your OP you claim that this rescheduling (not cancellation, as your OP initially suggested) was, in your words, "The most unbelievable thing you have ever heard" - Really? This incident is more unbelievable than the example you introduced, of Hitler committing the holocaust? How about Mans landing on the Moon? Is that less believable than an administrative mess at one school in one city 4 years ago?

Your OP just seems a hyperbolic seasonal attack on a subset of the population you do not seem to like very much...

Lazygun you miss the point completely. My analogy of Hitler was combating claims from people that this story was not relevant as it happened 4 years ago. Get with the program
I don't really think that they are on a par with one another as 'stories' go - can't really equate 'school changes date of school play' with all of the atrocities carried out by Hitler.

Sherrardk, your "impressions" do not warrnat accusing me of wanting no muslims in the UK. I am not bothered by muslims or their beliefs - but only whey they interfere with traditional British customs
Question Author
Sherrardk, again when did I say this story about the school was in anyway on the level pat with the Holocaust?
I think its you thats out of step Richie. Attempting to generate seasonal outrage against one particular subset of the population, using a link to a story about an admin error in one school in one part of the UK 4 years ago.

And the hyperbole of the original post and the adherence to Godwins Law show your argument to be essentially a thinly disguised rant against one subset of the population....
guess my question is too difficult for you then.
You keep contradicting yourself - 'I am not bothered by muslims or their beliefs - but only whey they interfere with traditional British customs'
'Sherrardk, again when did I say this story about the school was in anyway on the level pat with the Holocaust?' - when you mentioned them in the same paragraph as if one was equal to the other.
Richie88, instead of putting something on here to purposely stir racial tension ( the article was in the Daily Wail in 2008) why don't you answer to recent posting '' Song Name In Home Alone''. Don't just post something to start it off & then ignore it.

I was using it as an analogy not saying they are the same. Why keep on putting words in my mouth?

Whiskeryron - you gave me the answer to my question so why would I carry on posting?
You purposely chose an emotive 'story' from the 1940's rather than an event from 2008 to illustrate your point that the nativity 'story' was relevant even if it was 4 years old. You could have chosen any number of events from 2008 but you chose not to. You either appreciate the affect of what you are posting as emotive or you are not overly bright.
I'm sure this is an urban myth, like when Birmingham city council decided to have 'Winterval' instead of Christmas that was supposed to be so it didn't upset cetain people of the community, and it wasn't the case. Jesus, as a prohet is mentioned in the Koran, as is the Angel Gabriel - so why would they be offended? Eid, like Easter or Ramadan are movable - this year Eid was in the last week of October, and I've never heard of a school putting on the Nativity in October.
It is usual on here to say thanks when someone has gone out of their way to be helpful to an enquirer.

I used that as an example as it was 1. an extremely big event in history and 2. it was sooo long ago, (ie. not a short time, like 4 years). This issue of the fact that it was 4 years ago seems to be people only defence in their answers, including yours
"this year Eid was in the last week of October, and I've never heard of a school putting on the Nativity in October."

The story referenced isn't from this year, it's from 2008
Even if the story had happened yesterday, it did not involve cancellation or offence.
