A Nation Of Hypocrites.
62 Answers
After the very public outpouring of grief on 11/11, we now go back to normal, with military veterans denied adequate financial help, and Part of Mrs Mays reading in the Abbey was about feeding the hungry. Really? The perpetrator of the food banks?
What a shower, a nation of hypocrites!

No it’s not. There are many more people classed as “homeless” than there are “rough sleepers”. Many homeless are in temporary accommodation, B&Bs, hostels and are “sofa surfing”. They are not sleeping rough. It’s the “all peas are green but not everything that’s green is a pea” logic which needs explaining to you. All rough sleepers are homeless but not every person who is homeless is a rough sleeper.
“More needs to be done. Thelands OP has a point.”
No it doesn’t. This thread has unravelled by conflating two things which are largely unrelated. It suggests that the people who attended the many Remembrance ceremonies over the weekend are hypocrites because on Monday morning they return to being uncaring individuals who care not for ex-service personnel who are in difficulties. The two are not mutually exclusive; you can attend Remembrance events and have a care for ex-service men and women in difficulties. You may not be able to do much about the latter but that does not make you a hypocrite and frankly the suggestion is insulting.

This probably never happened but it does illustrate why socialism cannot possibly work.

Not been to this thread for a while. How did an erroneous reference to being hypocritical, by comparing individual action with what authorities do; degrade into a load of nonsense about socialism not working when it clear has in our own nation ?
Not planning on returning to the thread for an answer, just thought it might be worthwhile encouraging bringing it back to the OP for the rest of you.

// attending those events only a very, very few had been directly bereaved and could be said to be grieving. //
so the outpourings of whatever it was over Princess Di's death wasnt grief because they saw it on television
( gloss on damages for grief depend on if you there - and those watching on tel werent - Hillsborough cases - the police WERE there are got lots and lots of moolah and the parents who say their children killed the negligence - didnt
well there is justice for you! )
I think grief depends on the griever
and Theland - coungtries arent CHristian - people like you are - so get your lazy bott out there and start doing the good you are telling us to do!
Did not Jesus say - put your Mazies on and start spraying the bleach

Why is it ok for someone to call this nation a shower of hypocrites and not be in breach of Site Rules?
"...so the outpourings of whatever it was over Princess Di's death wasnt grief because they saw it on television"
Whatever it was it wasn't grief. I prefer to think of the day the Princess of Wales died as the day a large part of the country suffered mass hysteria and collectively lost their marbles.
The ceremonies, for the vast majority of people taking part, on Remembrance day are not "outpourings of grief." They are ceremonies of respect for those people who made the ultimate sacrifice (and for those who were badly injured) in the service of their country. You may or may not agree with the motives behind the action that the government of the day ordered but that should not influence the respect you should have for those affected.

Co-incidentally, just listening to a R4 Archive programme on remembrance through the last century.
Towards the end, Harry Patch (1st War veteran who died at the age of 109) was talking. He’d recently met a German soldier he’d fought against on the Somme, and said they’d agreed that “War was murder. Organised bloody murder.” He spoke with passion and anger.
A couple of minutes later they played a clip by Charles Windsor (prince), saying what great sacrifices had been made by the soldiers of the First War “for our freedom”.
From beyond the grave, I heard Harry’s curse, echoing with mine.

Capitalism is alive and well at the lower reaches of our society.
"Work pays and gets you out of poverty." Low wages, zero hours contracts, food banks, benefits frozen or suspended, kids going to bed hungry.
But Socialism is alive and well. The greedy banks runout of money, and the whole nation make tremendous sacrifices to fund them back into business, with obscene salaries a and bonuses. NOBODY WENT TO PRISON!
"Fred The Shred Godwin," kept his cash and his freedom, and only lost his Knighthood. A great Socialist. The many helping the few, (bankers.)
