Coronavirus: Will You Comply With The Government’s Advice?
271 Answers
Whether you fall into the group classified as ‘at risk’, or are over 70 and advised to remain at home, or younger and fit but requested to abandon your social life, will you comply - and if not why not?
Me? I think we are duty bound.

Of course we will comply, as you rightly say Naomi we feel we are ALL duty bound to do so. Chillidoubt must feel like banging his head against the wall with some of the responses here. It’s not much to ask to put your social life on hold for a few months is it? Better that than catch this virus or continue the spread of it. I despair at times...

I am staying in as I have a long term chest condition and luckily my son shops for me. But, I do intend to go for a walk whenever possible, as I think that's important for good health. And I have written myself an exercise program, which I have started today and will do every day, based on the exercises in my weekly class and those from after my hip replacement.

It was pretty dead already. Better, anyway, to have the section quiet than full of garbage.
This is a serious health crisis, and serious crises require the correct information to be out there, and not buried or obscured by misinformation and falsehoods. That applies here as well. We need to stop pretending that the truth doesn't deserve respect and protection.

Well said Jim. A true healthcare professional would realise some things are not for public knowledge. Who in their right mind would post that they had been told as part of their training that patients would be 'turned off' after 72 hours in ITU. ? None.
It never ceases to amaze me what intelligent people will be prepared to believe because someone they 'know' tells them!

I haven't read all of this but I'll relate my experience and views.
I spent an hour yesterday in a supermarket. I'd gathered my four or five items (of which I was in considerable need) and didn't get the other twenty or so that I also needed because of the utter lunacy of some of my fellow shoppers over the past week or so. During that hour, for most of the time I was queuing in a shopping aisle. Whilst I was there I was jostled, bumped into and was generally close up and personal to a number of people. There was nothing malicious in that. It's just that there was no space for anybody to do otherwise. On my way home I called in my local for a coffee (I needed it). I sat at a table which was four or five feet away from the next one and despite being reasonably busy, nobody was in anybody else's face. There was a notice asking people not to gather round the bar and to respect other people's space. This was by and large complied with. I washed by hands before I went to the bar and I used sanitizer after I had ordered.
I stood a far greater chance of catching or passing on a virus during my time in the supermarket than I ever would have whilst having a coffee in the pub. So, until "the authorities" find a way for me to get my goods without enduring what I did yesterday I shall continue to frequent my local unless and until it is closed on government orders. I plan to visit on Sunday evening with Mrs NJ and expect a similar situation to prevail (it is never busy on Sundays and I imagine it will be even less so now). If I eat at home on Sunday I shall have to make another shopping trip to get the victuals and since the threat of cross contamination there is far greater than in the pub I'll be doing everybody a favour. The alternative, of course, is simply that I go down with malnutrition because, thanks to idiots who clear the shelves and freezers of anything they can lay their hands on (whether they need it or not) shopping is a nightmare that I am seeking to avoid as far as possible.
