THE new atheists envision a world with no religion—no suicide bombers, no religious wars, and no televangelists fleecing their flocks. Does that vision appeal to you?

Before answering, ask yourself this, ‘Is there any evidence that universal atheism would lead to a better world?’

What...on Answerbank......or are you asking a more philosophical question?
The bible is a very simple book just a collection of stories.... it is the interpretation placed upon those stories that is unneccessarily complex...the creation of a mystique... the smoke and mirrors to create the need of explanation from a 'priesthood or whatever you wish to call it'

Actually, I have met people who like the world as it is.
I have even spoken with soldiers who don't want peace because they would be out of a job. There are those who love to have a rifle in their hands because it gives them power.
So no, not every rational person wants to see a world without war, crime, etc. etc. They don't even consider their own children or loved ones might want a better world to live in.
^Arrant nonsense.
Even worse than the religious bilge you have been posting...

Take it whatever way you want!
Just as you are fed up with "religious" posts,
I am fed up with the smug superior "I know better than you" type.
Andy-hughes, "i don't adopt the moral high ground with my stance."

I may be guilty of that, I do consider myself to have far better morals than many Christians and Muslims, I feel I am a better person than many Christians and Muslims, simply because I dont associate myself with these supposed Gods or the murder, killing and crucifying carried out in the name of these Gods.

I can hold my head up and honestly say that I have revered any God or person that has carried out mass murder, genocide, I never lied to my children and tried to convince them of any God or sent them to Sunday school so anybody else could convince them with such lies. etc.etc.etc.

Im sorry but in my books that makes me a far better person!!
@Truthabounds - There is no magical "Truth" with a capital T in the bible - no coded messages, no complex pointers. Its a book of folk story and myth, and you and yours are living in a fantasy world.

The type of world promoted by atheists - a world free of the stultifying effects of religion, the hatred, delusion and false morality promoted by little books of tall tales - is a world that would be an ineffably better place, and such a vision is infinitely superior to yours, one of evil done in the name of god, one of a kind of faux humbleness to an invisible, supernatural entity - Intolerance and bigotry runs through religion and taints everyone who comes into contact with it.

Your whole being is twisted by deference to a bronze age book - you cannot create a text without quoting from it, as if using such texts clothes your facile arguments in a cloak of authority.
Strikes me Truth, that you not only mix with religious nutters but also some militiary ones that, if what you say is tru, they should be removed from the Forces for their own good. You could also consider giving up meeting with both groups too, for all our benefit, well at least ABers and the people around you that you attempt to brainwash.

Worse than a Jehovah's Witness IMHO........
sorry about the typos - the keyboard needs a clean....
@ Truthabounds - I think this comment of yours just about sums up the gulf there is between you and decent, normal people.

"Actually, I have met people who like the world as it is.

That you would consider anyone who doesnt want a world without war, crime etc as rational, that those who get a sense of power from holding a gun as rational speaks volumes about your distorted view of humanity. I find your attitudes disgusting......
So you therefore attributing all the worlds ills to religion, as you state there would be no need for armys if it weren't for religion.
I'm an old atheist not a new one, and there will never be a world without wars because people are warlike, but certainly they would not be able to use religion as an excuse to hack their neighbours to pieces and rape and pillage to their hearts content. The lovely vision above is very appealing, but will never happen.
Truthabounds, you state " the bible is a complex book and not all understand.I know because I was that way once ". How do you know your interpretation is correct and in reality you still misunderstand and don't even realise it ?
Truthabounds - opening your response with "Andy-Hughes you have totally misunderstood." entirely proves my point. You are a sanctimonious supercilious pompous faith-pedaler, and you do your faith and those who practise it no good at all.
"we were all created equal with equal opportunities". Do you really believe that ?
I totally agree Andy and ive said it before, if anything, the type of nonsense that is spouted on here is enough to put people off religion for good! lets hope so!
those born with terrible disabilities or in abject poverty will never have the same opportunities in this world... Children for whom education is as much a fantasy as playing for Manchester united...or being a movie star...
Those who can't even sit unaided...let alone feed and toilet themselves...they have so few opportunities..
exactly rowanwitch, Truthabounds has stated this and I've asked the question hoping for an honest reply and not some obscure bible quote.
// Who are New Atheists?
A group of authors and speakers, who came to prominence after the year 2000,//

I think you'll find that those to whom you and the magazine that coined the description refer would disagree that they are 'New Atheists'. Because you feel the need to belong to a 'club', don't assume that everyone else does.

//Satan is a God. He is referred to as the God of this System or The Ruler of the World. He is the one to blame for all the bloodshed, poverty, feminine etc on this earth.//

Rubbish! If we are to believe what you believe, then your God is responsible for Satan's existence, so why hasn't the Almighty, who can (reputedly) do anything he chooses, destroyed him long before now to put an end to suffering?

//not every rational person wants to see a world without war, crime,//

Rational? Are you quite sure you understand the meaning of the word?

Incidentally, Adam and Eve weren't the first human pair. You claim with pride that you are the only one among us that really understands the bible, but clearly you don't.
All religion is a control mechanism, to control the masses.

Having said that, religion is not the root cause of all of these things.
