Many persons know about God. They may live in communities where most citizens claim to believe that he exists. But does this mean that they really know God? Well, there is a difference in knowing about the ruler of the country where one lives and in having a personal acquaintance with him. So, too, with knowing God.

Why do some people have a vengeful god and others a benevolent god. Surely beilievers have only one god? If there are two gods, then who is the non-believer?
Elderman, how you have the gall to preach unity is beyond me. Much of this world's misery emanates directly from the evil books that you people endorse and hold sacrosanct.

The Bible: Matt 10
34. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Quran 4:89. They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them,”

Where is the love? Where is the kindness? Where is the compassion? I see none in any of you. Societies and families torn apart, and friendships wantonly abandoned with spiteful words - and all for the sake of the fanciful deliberations - and often the political aspirations - of primitive men who lived hundreds of years ago. You all think you're special, you all think you're right, and you are all as guilty as one another in exacerbating the absolutely senseless separation and distrust that religion demands.

You all accept without question that others will be subjected to your God's hateful vengeance for not believing as you do, which, although you don't recognise it, must surely call into question your own ethics, but until you understand that love is the most important thing in this world, then there will never be unity. If you truly want harmony, then for 'God's' sake just stop selfishly obsessing about saving your own sorry souls in the life hereafter, and think about what you are actually promoting in the precious life you have here and now - all of you.
Elderman, whilst I am extremely grateful for your expression of sincere christian sympathy I can only say that you should put a bit more work into your sarcasm and wit as you will never displace Oscar Wilde on your current showing.
Naomi.. You just do not understand the scriptures do you? I see many times that Elderman has explained scriptures but you ABs just twist words. Therefore you will never get the true understanding. True Christians have unity among themselves. The division that Jesus talks about is just what is happening on this site. One believes, one doesn't, this even happens in families. The peace that Jesus brings is the peace of mind and heart that true christians have knowing the True God. The evil is not in the book, it is in this world - Jesus said the "ruler of this world is here" and the apostle Paul spoke of the "god of this system of things".-1 John 5 v 19
//True Christians have unity among themselves// May I suggest that it stays that way, instead of torturing us with your preachings then.

I now have a lot of sympathy for those poor folkin Africa and other colonies who were bombarded by your lot in the name of God - poor buqqers, if this is anything like what they had to endure. And just to add to that, not that the missionaries were not amiss to a bit of local killing in God's name......
Elderman/Goodlife, what a duplicitous person you are. ;o)

I've twisted nothing. The words I've posted, which clearly do not suit the carefully selected agenda you choose to attempt to promote, have been copied directly from the Bible and the Koran - and pasted here - and you know all about that.
The word twisting is done by the theists. The violence and prejudice in the Bbiles words are explicit.

Religious apologist try to pretend it is a matter of interpretation but the fact is that all the Abrahamic religions are firmly rooted in fascist philospy. Comply or die is thier mantra.
"True Christians" is a wonderfully convenient euphamism for "those who agree completely with me". Of course they share the same interpretation of the Bible.

The bad bits in the Bible are the work of the False Christians.
Like you twisters your day will come because, this twisting of Scripture paves a broad way to destruction, as the apostle Peter said: “In them, however, are some things hard to understand, the meaning of which the untaught and unsteady are twisting, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.” (2 Pet. 3:16) so be happy.
Goodlife, how do you know your interpretation is correct? Obviously there's nobody there to say what the original sentiment was behind a statement so it's all just interpretation, I'd have thought that was a given.
I think people would respect your views more if you simply said "my interpretation of the Bible is..." as opposed to "You're wrong, this is what it actually means".
As I've said a thousand times, it's the sheer arrogance of it all that I dislike so much, beliefs and views are fine, it's when people try to claim something that can't be proven to be absolute set in stone fact that is the most absurd thing.
Standard fare from goodlife - as predicatble as Kautostar winning the King George V Stakes at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.

I'll take my chances with St.Peter.

I rather like that story with Luciano Pavarotti coming upstairs to the Pearly Gate and meeting with St. Peter.

"Ah Luciano, I was expecting you."

"St. Peter, I have a letter here for you from the Pope."

He hands it over and St. Peter opens it.

"Peter - here's the tenner I owe you."
Glory to God on the highest and on earth peace and goodwill to all men. Happy New Year everyone.
Maggie, //peace and goodwill to all men. Happy New Year everyone. //

That bit I concur wholeheartedly with. A very happy New Year to you too.

Goodlife, would you care to elaborate on your accusation that I twist scripture by pointing out which bit of what I posted you think I twisted?
And to all women... :-)
I am awaiting goodlife's final default play, "Like I’ve said before – you can’t see what is under your noses!"
Well spotted Mark. Thank you. :o)
Elderman, I genuinely want to know your motivation for posting these threads. I did not understand your answer. Is it possible you could give me a clear, short answer. I would appreciate it, thanks
Notafish, the reason is right under your nose (as Elderman would say(again)). Perhaps he is a dentist who has been at the nitrous oxide.
Goodlife,Naomi beat me to it in challenging you to give an example of a 'twisted scripture' so come on, back up your statement with some evidence.
I just want a simple answer to a simple question. Is that too much to ask
