I found the implications of this video rather disturbing. This man appears to be saying that he adheres to an acceptable moral code only because he fears the negative consequences of his actions - as taught by Islam - in the next life. He then talks about children needing moral guidance, but still he relies upon an outside source – Islam and the Koran - to provide it. Surely, as an adult, he knows right from wrong, and should be capable of living a decent lifestyle, and of teaching his children to do the same without abnegating his responsibility and without this feeble dependency?

Vestute, I'd sooner be blessed with simple faith than a glib tongue.
So, where do you think you went wrong Sandy?
God made me a silver tongued charmer and at the same time denied me faith. Still, I suppose we all have our crosses to bear.

//Naomi, doesn't that verse enjoin us to be welcoming to strangers because in doing so some people have entertained Angels?//

That rather smacks of entertaining strangers for the wrong reasons, Sandy.
If the host has an ulterior motive that's between him/her and their conscience.
Question Author
Hang on. We're talking about God's advice here - so surely the good readers of the bible shouldn't have an ulterior motive?
It was a dark and stormy night. I'm setting the scene, here
You're driving along a quiet country road when your car breaks down. A flash of lightning illuminates a house in the distance. Struggling through the almost horizontal rain you make your way there to seek sanctuary.
You're admitted but find, to your dismay, that it's a house of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The price to be paid for shelter and warmth is a monumental ear bashing.
Ulterior motives can be encountered anywhere.
//I found the implications of this video rather disturbing.//

lol, it seems you find everything to do with muslims disturbing. I wonder why?

Sith, 107 answers and 6 pages down the line - and you've only just realised what I said? Do keep up, Sith.
Sith, I too am disturbed by a bunch of people who rather than admit that they were hoodwinked 1500 years ago by an illiterate slavetrading conman called mohammed, insist on trying to promulgate his lies because they are either to stupid to realise the truth or too embarrassed to admit that they were conned. Is that simple enough for you?
Question Author
Sandy, //Ulterior motives can be encountered anywhere.//

I wouldn’t say anywhere – but I grant you, in most places.
<< I'd sooner be blessed with simple faith than a glib tongue>>
Sandy, I'm disappointed that my post came across as merely glib. I'd intended it to be insulting.
V-E I think you were too subtle. You should have put the punch line at the beginning for those of us with the attention span of a gold fish.
Thanks, Jom. Yes, I'm sure you're right.
even if we were hoodwinked 1500 years ago at least we know how to live our lives properly.
Question Author
'Properly'? Peculiar dictionary you have there.
sith123 // even if we were hoodwinked 1500 years ago at least we know how to live our lives properly.//

You don't know how to live YOUR life. You know only how to live a life approved by ignorant, misogynist men who lived fifteen centuries ago.

There is ample evidence that the religious life is one of ignorance guided by slavish adherence to fascist values .
always keep a-hold of nurse, for fear of finding something worse

Surely, without guidance the world would descend into chaos. Much better firm direction than anarchy.
Much better people thinking about morality than simply accepting the primitive doctrine of ignorant men.
Indeed it is the acceptance and exaltation of religious doctrine that prevents us from moving to rational morality leaving so many stuck in the stoneage.
