Why would god create everyone and then tell one group to kill another? That makes no sense if it's true

Surely when the koran was translated into English there must have been some English speaking Islamic scholars who could have checked whether or not the translation was correct. To say that it is misinterpreted is to say that it is little better than a Chinese to English translation of an instruction book.....and nobody noticed..
My Islamic newsagent - from Pakistan - aged 19 thinks it is OK to massacre sun-worshippers...

I must say I was surprised: I did remind him that in order to be convicted under the Terrorism Act all he had to do was fly out of the country whilst having an intention to aid various narty organisations

it was his turn to look surprised
Khandro, history doesn't justify crucifixions, the lopping off of heads, and the slaughter of anyone who doesn't agree with the perpetrators. Islam is solely responsible for that.
^ Have I or anyone on here said those actions were justified?
During the previously mentioned carving up of the middle east, the Kurds didn't even get a country - straight bordered or otherwise,
and they are "an ethnic group who have historically inhabited the mountainous areas to the south of Caucasus (Northern Zagros and Eastern Taurus mountain ranges), a geographical area collectively referred to as Kurdistan. Most Kurds speak an Indo-European language belonging to the Northwestern Iranian branch. Kurdistan is divided into 4 different parts which are in Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria. Kurdish people have one of the longest ethnic histories in the middle east. Their lineage dates back to as early as 2400 BC, where they occupied the same lands as they do today. However many foreign invasions and immigrants shaped the face of the Kurdish people over time. Though Kurds had followed the teaching of Islam since an Arabic invasion in the 7th century, their culture remained distinctly different from all the others found around it."
Just one of the many factors involved in the 'mayhem', and don't forget Islamic extremists are murdering Muslims too.
It isn't simply a question of Muslims versus the Infidels, there is, and always was, a great power struggle being played out right across the region.
Shia va Sunni - Isis - convert or die. Lovely ultimatum.

As I said earlier every Muslim in the world needs to drop dead simultaneously and the world will be a better place
^ If that were to happen, the world would loose some very nice people, some of whom are known to me.
A friendly warning; hatred harms not only the person it is directed at, but the person directing it, it's also quite infectious.
Some people are nice despite their beliefs. It is good to know that goodness seems to be inherent whereas hatred has to be learnt..
Khandro, //Have I or anyone on here said those actions were justified?//

No you haven’t, but you’ve gone to some length to explain why the horrors we’re now seeing aren’t solely attributable to Islam. Sorry Khandro, but your history lesson doesn’t wash. ISIS is slaughtering anyone who doesn’t concede to its philosophy – and its philosophy comes directly from the teachings of Islam. Of that there can be no doubt.
Imperial arrogance + lazy cartography = ISIS. Simple, you do the math!
Are you joking or what, Khandro?
Sorry, it has been rebadged as IS(Islamic State). HubrIS -> NemesIS.
What have IS and your humble correspondent got in common, Khandro?
There is an estimated 130 million Shia Muslims in the world and IS wants them to either convert to Sunni or be slaughtered, I think they have something of a task ahead. So as there is only one Koran, it would appear that someone should have gone to Specsavers.
The Sunni/Shia issue is nothing to do with the Koran, but each is culpable of slaughter. It would appear that someone needs to study their history.
What the Koran did NOT say may be relevant to the Sunni/Shia issue, Naomi. Allah seemed very particular about a number of things which a balanced person might think of little importance - dress, diet, which way you're looking when you pray and so on - and made quite sure these essential ingredients of the good life were included in the divine recipe book. Odd, then, that He hadn't anticipated two jealous women fighting over control of the Ummah after their husband's death.
Did you know the Koran contains details of discoveries yet to be discovered – although how anyone knows that is a complete mystery. ;o)
That's 'cos they were discovered by mohammed when he was on one of his 'trips' (with or without the flying horse).
@naomi

//Keyplus, you’re not fluent in Arabic. Your opinions don’t count. Sorry. //

Ha ha.

So, what this debate needs (but cannot afford to bankroll) is a team of translators to cross-check Koran translations against one another and against the Arabic original.

Translators with with no axes to grind (on topic, see), no politics to play, no apologist tendencies. They can dissemble all they like, just not all in the same way in the same places. ;-)

@divebuddy

//This is supposed to be the origin of "giving someone the finger". i.e. archers (who still had their middle finger) would give the sign to show they were still in the game.//

So you're not from the UK then?

Hypognosis, translations of the Koran do vary to a degree, but I’ve no doubt that if any of them contained anything Islamic scholars found objectionable, they would speak out. Not only do they try very hard to justify everything written there, they make every effort to find explanations within the Koran for every advance of science – even if that means producing a plethora of demonstrable nonsense – which, when scrutinised, is usually the case.

not really when you've got MEEEEE !

The word used in some of the references 2: 217 is .... qatl .....
and not maat.

qatl is used in mod lit arabic for 'cut'

But THEN we westerners would discuss whether qatl has changed meaning over the last 1400 years - as you know did it once mean kiss or reprove ? er No actually but....

any scholar would run to the Haditha and commentaries to see what the commentators say.

Only we Christians translate it as we know it is the unalloyed word of God.

and as I was musing about putting myself up as the bank rolled arabic translator, I thought to myself - of course it meant kill them.... that is why they are DOING it now !

Oh if you wanna learn to read Arabic part time - it is a five to ten year suck. By comparison with Spanish, at DOn quixote language school after the first day, I thought - I think I am ready for a copy of El Pais....but then remember at primary skool you did the Latin alphabet sudduv every day of your life....
