Dismiss God as the author and creator of the universe, but what is your hypothesis? Or are you simply satisfied to say, "I don't know?"

It was written by humans, and even aside from all the inconsistencies it comes attached with the easy possibility of errors in translation: "Thou shalt commit adultery" being one famous example.
If you want to debate the apparent physical impossibility of the Universe being created from nothing, then be my guest -- although I should point out that "nothing" is a very misleading term anyway. Once you allow for quantum effects, and gravity in particular, then there's no such thing as a literal, absolute absence of anything at all.

The problem inherent in this question lies not in the 'who' or 'what' but rather with the presumption that the universe was created at all. Creativity presupposes the existence of an intelligent purposeful intentional being without the benefit of a place where such a being can develop survive and evolve the qualities essential to the process of creativity, let alone exist at all. Creativity is a product of the universe along with billions of years of evolution that made the existence of life, consciousness, and intelligent purposeful action possible, not vice versa. In essence this question puts the cart before the horse. Consciousness presupposes the existence of something to be conscious of and the means and process by which one learns of there own existence and what is possible.
Theland, //I really DO respect the various beliefs expressed here//
I haven’t expressed a ‘belief’. I’ve examined the evidence and, rationally, what you claim cannot possibly be right.
Jim, //I'm not interested in debating the veracity or accuracy of the Bible.//
If you’re not interested in the veracity or accuracy of the bible, how can you legitimately claim it to be wrong?

It's consistent with my general rule that you understand the Universe better by looking at it yourself, rather than through the eyes of other people. I don't consider the Bible to be "wrong" so much unreliable.
