A Question For Atheists.

AOG; At funerals of close family members, i will enter the church and take a pew. I do not join in with the prayers or hymns but i have read eulogies at both my parents funerals. When i attend the funerals of distant relatives or acquaintances, i do not even enter the church. I have expressed wishes that my cremation should be as 'religion free' as possible. Though, of course, when i have popped my clogs, what does it matter if my children respect those wishes.

If I had faith in the existence of leprachauns, even though there's exactly the same amount of proof in their existence as there is in the existence of god, people would think I have a mental issue. Funny that.

Ive not attended a religious ceremony and sung along with the hymns. If I go to a wedding in a church, I just dont sing along.
My family is aware that I do not want a funeral of any kind and my wedding was at a registry office.

Neither is there a single shred of evidence that one does not exist in some form.
Your analogy with the existence of leprechauns, doesn't wash, unlike the existence of a god, who as been worshipped around the globe in some form, since the existence of man.

The church simply scrubbed off the old names and some of the old traditions and put their own in. You do not need to be a Christian (or even necessarily religious) to take part in or enjoy them.

Hmm. Maybe he's in turmoil. All religion should be officially classified as a hobby. Nothing else. It doesn't matter. Like doing table tennis, playing football, golf, fishing, judo, karate. It only matters to those people. Which is fair enough. But it ends there.

In the case of Easter they didn't even manage to change the name. The name for spring fertility festival comes from the same beginnings as the word oestrus and the ancient Germanic goddess Ostaria.

We will be having a get together at Easter as we did at Christmas simply because people are on holiday, nothing to do with religion just a nice social time, always worthwhile.
