Our Home - The Speck Of Dust
196 Answers
NASA has just released images of a black hole located in a distant galaxy.
It measures 40 billion km across - three million times the size of the Earth - and has been described by scientists as "a monster". The black hole is 500 MILLION TRILLION km away.
Logically, do those enormous distances not encourage the creationist fraternity to wonder if they’re mistaken? Do they not ask why, from this whole unimaginably vast universe, a creator God would have selected this minute speck of dust located somewhere near the outer reaches of a fairly minor galaxy – just one of an estimated 2000 billion galaxies each containing billions of stars – as home to his beloved(?) creation – man?
Personally, I cannot believe we’re that special. What say you?

Naomi - I think you mistake stubbornness for intelligent discussion.
It may give you pleasure to dismiss the idea of God out of hand, but you always fail to substitute your own explanations for the created universe, abiogenesis, and the myths of evolution.
You seem more interested in throwing darts and self promotion.
Sadly, I am one at least who is not in the least impressed by your self indulgence.

Theland, //It may give you pleasure to dismiss the idea of God out of hand…//
I haven’t dismissed it out of hand. As I said earlier I have examined the evidence and your God, as an omniscient, omnipotent entity, falls short of the necessary attributes.
//you always fail to substitute your own explanations for the created universe, abiogenesis, and the myths of evolution.//
Evolution isn’t a myth – clearly - and I don’t have a definitive explanation for the rest which is why I don’t offer one. You are equally ignorant in that respect but nevertheless, as irrational as it is, insist on providing one – albeit one that carries no verifiable evidence whatsoever.
And for the third time on this thread, this isn’t about me. I neither crave nor seek the approval of others, least of all you, so while your ongoing vitriol may please those of equally spiteful mind, it's wasted on me.

n. Back to Starship Enterpise; //The black hole is 500 MILLION TRILLION km away. //
and I for one hope it stays there, Fascinating! as Mr Spock would say, BUT so are many other things, e.g. I have a note pinned to my studio wall which says, ' 1st swallows arrived Fri. 22nd 2011 at 7:00pm'
(there are 8 nests on the front of my house).
I'm praying they get passed the maniac Italian (ever so-macho) men with their guns, to bring me great joy again for the Summer - now that is really fascinating!

Theland, you're clutching at straws. If someone told you they'd had a conversation with a donkey or a serpent, or that they had been dead for three days and come back to life, or that the dead had risen from their graves and trundled around a city, or that they had been swallowed by a fish and lived for three days in its belly, you would understandably question their sanity. Why don't you question the sanity of the people who wrote all of that?
And out of completely nothing came, (roll of drums), a universe!
And then inanimate chemicals joined together for no reason, and became self replicating molecules. And then against all odds, produced proteins.
And in spite of no evidence of cross speciation, text books were written to convince us that the new atheism really is clever.
And a life without God? Well just switch on the news.
