My mum who has terminal cancer, had mapped her funeral arrangements out long ago and it required a religious ceremony. Prayers, Hymns etc. But after been allowed to attend the cremation of my brother in law...as one of the 10 people allowed at the start of lockdown...she has since changed her mind. My BIL had a humanist funeral and my mother found it beautiful, simple and to the point. She has since changed her request from a religious ceremony to a humanist one.
No religious claptrap spouted by a priest/vicar etc about living again in some etheral realm.
Just a simple accaptance that all things must die.
She seems more at peace with that, than this idea that we will live again after death.

Its unavoidable that we all must die, faith or no faith!
Ironically, as a young christian, I was terrified of dying.
As an atheist, Im not.
It seems to me that its the terminal religious that are most afraid.
To me death is nothing more than a return to the state of being before conception...nothingness!

Still try to make the most out of existance, but nothingness is not to be afraid of.
Like been in Non-REM sleep. Nothingness.

I am frightened of lots of things especially developing dementia, having a long and painful illness and being a burden to my family in old age. The thought of death doesn't frighten me at all, although I don't like to think of my family and loved ones grieving when I'm gone.
I am less scared of dementia, than nursing. I can't think of anything worse than having a completely able mind, while not being able to move.
On that matter, watching the Peter Scott-Morgan programme was an eye opener.
What was that about, trevor?
If you google his name it should come up, I think it was channel 4 but I’m sure you can watch it on YouTube etc
Thanks trevor... I have just been having a Google. Will try to find it. I have looked after many people with different versions of MND. Including someone who used an eye pad. Will have a look.
No, more scared of living at the moment. I am 75 and if I go tomorrow I have had a good time.

Children all grown up with their own children. In time I shall be nothing more than a memory and a few photos.

As will we all SparklyKid, as will we all.

//Nailit, once again you appear to be looking for some kind of reassurance//
Eh? Reassurance that once I'm dead, I remain dead?
You are the one that keeps seeking reassurance. I accept the inevitable...

Only the arrogant (out of billions of life forms to have ever existed on this planet) believe that they are immortal. (And that their enemies will be subject to eternal punishment)

The subject of NDE's and death bed visions has fascinated me for the best part of 30 years. Read scores of books, reviewed hundreds of articles and viewed countless you-tube vids.

On balance, nothing has convinced me that we survive death.

LOL LOL, somehow missed that post Lady CG first time.
Im nicking that ;-)
We are all created with an eternal spirit and soul. These have no material substance eg not made with atoms so they cannot die.
Your destination about death is utterly connected with your decision about Jesus in this earthly life.
Nobody was created by God for the purpose of dying. What a waste of God's design that would be.
Nailit, 19:04, it is interesting. I haven't looked into it as much as you, just a little. But experience of 26 years, of people naturally getting to the end of their life, has given me the same conclusion. It's all explainable without the supernatural.
Odd things happen ... of that I have no doubt ... so perhaps the 'supernatural' isn't 'super'-natural at all ... but just natural. Just a thought.
My Mum experienced the 'life before her eyes' (she believed) - I asked her why she was gazing at the ceiling and smiling,"I'm watching the story of my life" she said. After a while she squeezed my hand and said she was tired.

She left this world within the hour.
I am not scared of dying at all, but terrified of having a long painful illness or being in care and being out of control. Death to me means nothingness and that's fine by me.
How lovely, mamya. Nice way to go.
What a waste of God's design that would be

a few suicides apart, it isn't anyone's intention to die. And yet it happens. Perhaps, if God disapproves of this, He could do something about it? He's better placed to do so than I am.
I must admit whilst being transported in an ambulance many years ago whilst on deaths doorstep I asked the medic if I was going to die. I remember not feeling frightened, I just wanted to know. Perhaps the lack of blood caused the feeling of euphoria I had.
