Is Wokeism The New Religion?

There are many terms and dogmas associated with, '' Wokeism,'' and I don't profess to completely understand them all.

Some of them are :-
Diversity, Integration, Equality, (D.I.E.)
Virtue Signalling.
Gaslignting.
Subconscious racism.
White privilege.
Victimhood.
Phobias of all colours and hues.
Intersectionality.
Mysogyny.
Homophobia.
Transphobia.

My simplistic understanding of all of the above, which is not exhaustive, is that the major problem, is the white, ''privileged,'' (whatever that means), male.

So, without me supplying more information, what do you think?

The whole driving force of Woke is a power grab, by claiming victimhood, and accusing others of the things that offend them, and those things include the items I have mentioned above in an earlier post.
The more real or imagined offence taken, the greater the victimhood, the greater the emphasis on the need for power to right the wrongs that upset them.

I disagree. There is racism, mysogyny etc, no doubt about that. But the Woke see these and other misdeeds where none exist, and where it does, the scale is emphasised and blown up out of all proportion, simply because it suits their agenda.

There are so many aspects to Woke that our normal societal culture is forever under attack, and the demands made on the majority is to bend over backwards to allow the minorities to have a substantial and disproportionate influence in our affairs.
Woke works on the personal level, attacking individuals, and quite often hurting them financially, socially and reputationally.
Its just a more sophisticated and effective way of throwing mud, and a lot of it sticks.

I said there were many faces of Woke and it might be helpful in a friendly discussion to examine just a few of them for the time being.
The most obvious one is racism. Plenty to discuss there.
Another, close to my heart, is antisemitism.
Sadly, the Labour party has been a p!ayer in both of these.

Theland, we've only got your word for it that you really feel offended. You are implying that other people who take offence are 'putting it on' to impress or to gain sympathy. My earlier point is that you often take offence, even when it seems to me that people have simply disagreed with you. I know some people can be rude, but not all of them are.

"Woke" literally means "aware"- and yes, may cover the over-sensitive or looking to be offended individuals... but clearly can't be a bad thing in general. I also, don't understand the confusion aggression or fear about change.

Just for example, would you say that pulling down a statue of a slave-trader.... would be a good or bad thing? You must realise that it doesn't erase or rewrite history... it just acknowledges that, like every other country, our past may not be perfect. Surely you can acknowledge something happened, without needing to overtly celebrate it?

One of the strangest things (although not for AB perhaps...) was the number of posts claiming "mobrule" or an undemocratic decision... where none of these statues were erected by a democratic decision in the first place. I certainly haven't been asked which individuals deserve to be honoured. Have you? It seems... democracy is great when you agree... but not if you don't....

Pixie - that's an excellent point regarding statues.
No, nobody was asked when they went up, but thinking we are a bit more sophisticated these days, maybe a vote should have been taken to remove Colson, not a decision by an angry mob, which is anarchy.
Of course, Colson poured his money into Bristol for good works.
In a similar vein, I think the Cecil Rhodes statue should stay, simply part of history.

No, you find it useless whilst I do not.
I did not swallow my beliefs hook line and sinker, but came to faith after a lot of heart searching and reading.
It made sense to me and still does.
It has changed me, I am not the person I once was, although I still have a very very long way to go and fail regularly.

Who are you to judge whether a person is genuinely offended or not? It suits you to label others as woke, but when the tables are turned, it's different because you're suffering real offence? Pathetic.

It doesn't matter whether it's a black person, a gay, trans or whatever. You do not have the right, or the knowledge to know whether their offence is genuine.

I'm sure some do fake offence to get their 15 minutes of fame (or infamy), but you seem happy to tar all with the same brush, whether they're genuine or not.
