When someone beseeches you to, Open your heart to God, what this request demands is that you close your mind to reason. While dispensing with religious teachings will not in itself provide one with a moral code for living, it is an essential first step to returning to the use of a rational process for discovering the demands imposed by reality on existence and the values that are fundamental to developing a moral code that incorporates human nature, and the rights, freedoms, and responsibilities that are essential to come to mutually agreeable determinations for what is acceptable behavior and what can not and should not be tolerated to insure our survival, well-being and continued evolutionary progress.
Trusting and believing in God and whatever, whoever says He said is an invitation for the worst possible conceivable or inconceivable perversions of what only reality can truly demonstrate is right or wrong as anyone who has managed to maintain the ability to see with and through there own eyes can attest.
It is the development of our ability to reason (not a belief in a benevolent overseer) that has taken us from the club to the ability to wield Occams razor and cut through the tripe of unessential and misguided beliefs. Only by adhering to a rational process will we perceive a vision of a brighter world that awaits us if only we will once again learn how to think.
