RABAT - A Moroccan theologian repeated his claims Sunday that Muslim girls could marry as early as nine years old, arguing it was sanctioned by the Prophet Mohammed.

"The marriage of nine-year-old girls is not forbidden because according to the Hadith (the Prophet Mohammed's sayings), Mohammed married Aisha when she was only seven-years-old and he consummated his union when she was nine," wrote Sheikh Mohamed Ben Abderrahman Al-Maghraoui on his website (Maghrawi.net).

"Those who criticise me, like the press or Moroccan television as well as the lawyer who filed the complaint (against me), are part of a secular attack against the Islamic nation and its theologians," he added.

Keyplus just to touch on something my son pointed out about your post concerning western propaganda.
Might I add that most of your links could be seen as Muslim propaganda and just as you and others of your faith see everything that the west publishes as propaganda.

keyplus in the same way that you say one persons voice does not make Islam wrong..........the interest/conversion of one government minister does not make Islam right. You can't have it both ways, I'm afraid.

There are many practices condoned in Islam that are seen as downright barbaric to those not held in its thrall..........

Please don't try to create a smokescreen by telling us that there may be disagreement amongst Islamic scholars over the aged of Aisha.............there are long-held cultural practices occuring now based on interpretation of the Koran which are plain wrong and cruel.

I doubt that despite our urging, you will ever criticise another Muslim (it is not permitted, is it ?) but please stop trying to defend the indefensible.
