RABAT - A Moroccan theologian repeated his claims Sunday that Muslim girls could marry as early as nine years old, arguing it was sanctioned by the Prophet Mohammed.
"The marriage of nine-year-old girls is not forbidden because according to the Hadith (the Prophet Mohammed's sayings), Mohammed married Aisha when she was only seven-years-old and he consummated his union when she was nine," wrote Sheikh Mohamed Ben Abderrahman Al-Maghraoui on his website (Maghrawi.net).
"Those who criticise me, like the press or Moroccan television as well as the lawyer who filed the complaint (against me), are part of a secular attack against the Islamic nation and its theologians," he added.

If it is only misconception and so many people make so much fuss out of this then it is know as some sort of phobia.perhaps Islamophobia would be a better word. Otherwise there are 1.8 billion Muslims and history span is over 1400 years. Simply give me how many cases you know as a fact. And I will give you at least 5 with ever case you give me where None Muslims are involved although I know media only covers what they want to cover.
OK I will make your life easier. Give me number of people arrested or charged in UK for paedophilia and let me know ho many out of those are Muslims. Come on I am waiting.

I'm sorry, but if it turned out that all the paedophiles in UK were non-Muslim, in what possible way would change the point being made?
Please explain how the fact that there are some evil people who abuse children who are not Muslims somehow causally makes it acceptable for a Muslim cleric to say it is acceptable to marry and have sex with 9 year olds?
These are two entirely unconnected facts and the further fact that some people on this thread are clearly Islamophobic does *not* detract from the fact that you are repeatedly defending child abuse on the sole grounds that an Islamic scholar has said it is acceptable. It is not. Not even most Muslims agree with this idiot. Why do you defend the indefensible? If you do support him, why do you not also defend the paedophiles who slept with post-pubescent-yet-underage children against the charges against them? If you are in any way consistant, your only objection can be to the fact the sex takes place outside of marriage. The child abuse claims must be unsupportable, because you have repeatedly said it is acceptable.
You are morally all over the shop and your basic argument holds no water. Let's not get bogged down in attacking people who want to defame your religion, the fundamental point you are defending *is* indefensible and most of your fellow muslims agree.

Waldo this is Keyplus's usual argument every time some one Questions something about Islam.
He seem to see every one who is not Muslim as wrong and he will not let up until he is either dead or proved totally wrong. He post the same old links every time without thought of what is being discussed.
By the way I should point out before he does that I am a Baptist christian but I see faith as a debate to be discussed and thought over on a personal level rather than the Keyplus line of thought of I'm right and everyone else is wrong.
I have had to think seriously about how I view God but thats between me and the man upstairs and no one else.
But I do not and will not dictate to any one else what they should believe and I do not put any stock into Keyplus's way of thinking. To me it is a case of believe or die where Islam is concerned.
6.something billion on the planet Keyplus and only 1.8 billion of those are muslim. Not many really. By the way if you want to talk statistics there are more Catholics, but I find they can be just a closed minded as any muslim.

Keyplus, yet again your mask has slipped and you've shown your true colours. Your latest arguments have no bearing on the subject, and you've lost the debate, so accept it.
Your last resort is usually to hide behind a shield and cry 'Islamophobia' , as you've done this time - a dishonest and crafty ploy in itself. I would say most of the people here are not Islamophobic - rather they're bored - and pretty disgusted - with your vile and antiquated nonsense.
Lonnie, thanks. That worried me.

OK Waldo asked a sensible question and I will give a sensible answer.
Waldo - You tell me where I supported what that cleric said. Yes I did say that few people are giving him more importance in this country and there even his family members might not be listen to him. Most of the time I am saying and have said that in the past that Traditions (Hadith) which basis this concept of Muhammad (pbuh) married to Ayesha when she was 9 years, have always been questioned by most of the scholars and that is the reason I gave one of the links. Because age factor is unsure and there is enough evidence (in my links) to suggest that she was somewhere between 14 to 18 years of age. Ok that is a different story and I am sure many will never agree and neither me nor any other Muslims are probably worried about that.
OK now coming back to that cleric. He can say whatever he wants to say. That does not mean Muslims marry 9 year olds. That is the reason I asked that in real life how many people have seen that happening? Not many I am sure (might be one or two odd cases and that can happen without the involvement of any religion). So I am not defending that cleric at all. Yes I did say that Islam does not believe in digits and marry according to puberty. But still I am sure people are not watching and counting days over their daughters head that the moment she has reached puberty next second get her married. In other words that can be taken as your children must not be married unless they have reached puberty and that is the other side of the coin. That is another way of mentioning it. What I said about paedophiles not being Muslim, is in reaction to people's rants that all the Muslim countries allow paedophilia. So I asked a simple question that how many Muslims Paedophiles someone has seen here or in any Muslim country?. By that no way I am putting these two things together.

My question was sensible too, but I didn't get an answer. Why treat ten year old boys as children, but consider nine year old girls to be old enough for marriage?
So scholars have questioned the age of Mohammed's wife? Odd that this is offered in defence of your argument since I have always understood from you that not one single word in the Koran is untrue. It's the infallible word of Allah, isn't it? Or does that only apply until something unsavoury and unacceptable rears its ugly head? You're on sticky ground here Keyplus. If you are saying that this is questionable, then you're admitting that the Koran isn't completely accurate, and we therefore have to ask what other inaccuracies it might contain.
