My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Morning or whatever. Had a dreadful, night worrying until, hija got home with the car at 2.45, then cat started up, i fonally chicked her out at at 5am and slept for 3 hrs. Bot up andmhad stitche dout. She cant unfortunately save the other molar as she realised it had a bigger cavity than she first thought. She called it a tunnel! So thats to come soon. I am shattered, hija met me from dentist and we had a brekkie then a looong walk, the she bought me some Michael Kors Jasmine perfume and we had drinks and tapas on the main street. Then hija made a carbonara sauce for our dinner, she invited usnout but Mr N doesntmwant to dine out when he has work . I also have to get up early tomorrow to get the 8.30 bus to lidl, yes again!
Flea free? I dont believe she had any anyway,,everyone is getting bitten by mossies at the moment, anyway she is happy( and clean!) Shes starting to move into the new flat tomorrow.
Well well I have just been gardening!! Well weeding the side patio but there a big rat and a baby rat and one of the cats destroyed them for me, but I was very worried about meeting a snake and I put my hand in the weeds. Said cat was sitting near me happily so I guessed there weren't any snakes, but I've left the big bush till I'm on wellies and gloves.
I spent yesterday going up and down a ladder trying to put up a hooge timber post to mount a camera on to turn the tortoise pen into stalag 17. It must have been good for me because today I have bum ache as though I had been doing the buns of steel video (showing my age again)
Morning...this site's playing up as per usual. I thought I was in the wrong thread for a moment... neti, gardening? Well it had to happen eventually. Sorry it's another tooth extraction for you neti.

haha, I love the maximum security tortie prison. I'm amazed at their ability to climb & escape. I think I need to find a gentle exercise dvd, getting fed up of aches. My pain du jour is cramping in my right ribs and many google roads seem to lead to fibro. hey ho.

It looks dull out there, but I can't go far into the garden any way, I'm expecting a van man. In my despondency I accidentally ordered a Kipling bag from qvc at the weekend. Well, I was just flicking round the channels and there it was....
Morning all
Brightened up now after a dim start.
Very brave of you Woofy .I wobble on a little two step ladder.
Hope you're all ok.
How very naughty of you Robinia . I found a nice cardigan in Debenhams the other day .......
They had it in two different colours :)
Morningi managed to get up at 7.15 met my fiwnd at busstop for 8.15 bus. Got another taxi to lidl but he thought I said Lido,we don't have one so took usnon a merry chase until I queried it so he dropped us off at lidl it only 1€ more. We gotnlota of heavy stuff I also got a hand steamer, we we found we couldn't carry it anyway, so had to phone hija ad she collect the shopping been went for brekkie and Zara shopping. Lovely day but I am shattered. House a mess and half of hija's stuff gone. :-( so I've tidied and getting the washing done. I was first out of the house today, hate leaving it unmade!
Am jolly cold. Hija's sleeping in her new flat and I am having her room so if she wants to come home I can just nip into my bed, but Nr N was up a lot with Mousy last night and he is shattered, so he can be undisturbed. I'll battle the cat!! Which involves sitting on closed loo seat and stroking her head and talking to her.

the stateleigh home was very nice, but duvets?? Spawn of the devil. We didn't realise till about 11pm so it was a bit too late to be demanding proper silken sheets.

The gardens were lovely - no roses in the rose garden yet but lots of bluebells and tulips and other exotic items. I did keep an eye out for anyone walking the bloody tower with her head tucked underneath her arm, but she must have been out.
Haha Jno
I thought of you this evening when I was watching the local news.
Somerleyton Hall, not far from us,is now open for visitors to stay the night in their stately rooms. Wait for it .........
3,000 quid a night ! You do get a butler though :)
hello all, I am back to more or less full function....more fencing tomorrow, sis is a slave driver :)
Have met a friend and got a trolley full of books, yay. Now waiting in Chinese hairdressers to be clipped. He is busy today as he's been away for 4 months. Also chilly here again and I have a cold sore on my lip!
Morning all...oh dear, were you talking to the wall in here yesterday neti? I just didn't feel very sociable, I keep having relapses with whatever this is, I'm fed up of it. I know I'm always low at this time of year, I was probably a tortie in my previous life.

Know the feeling woofy, I can barely keep up with my sister. I keep saying, 'Wait until you're my age' :)

It's bright & blue skies out there...keep your libbies handy, wintry showers next week :(
she’s 12 years older than me.......
Morning or not! I'm finding it hard to keep up with anyone and I was always the fastest walker until lately. I do hope I'm not giving in tomold age, and mynsisters ate both older than I.
Sunny but a tad chilly here.
I said goodbye to the giraffe family last night as they cut the live feed. I am addicted. Then therebwasba big cockroach in the bathroom sitting next to the cat who ignored it. Obvs Mr N had to rush to the rescue, but I insisted he slept in same bed, I hate creepy crawlies.

I have bought a couple of T-shirts made from recycled plastic bottles; I hope this helps to save the planet. Other than that I don't seem to have done much lately. I have been titivating my photos of our Tall Ships cruise along the river (it was very nice, the sun came out) and some stately home photos too; plus I watched That's Entertainment this morning. So I am quite busy even if I don't seem to achieve much
tortoise fence is up and looking good
Question Author
yes its amazing to see tortoises and turtles climb, they are very good at it!
Good morning. A. Quiet day here for a change. No idea where hija is, she was out last night, so hopefully she is at her apartment. We have the car, so will have to drive there in tandem to deliver it as she starts work tomorrow.
I didnt know tortoises could climb!
