My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

another peaceful day here so far, watered the garden because of the long drought but I see it's going to be snowing again by Tuesday. Well, on Scots, not on my garden, I hope.

oh, a friend's just sent me a story about an invasion of Spanish slugs. Apparently they can be six inches long and bright orange, and they're more resistant to disease and less attractive to birds and hedgehogs. Sounds lovely. It's from the Times so I suppose it's true.
just read an article from the Telegraph about Archimedes. According to the Telegraph, “he is often credited with coining the term “Eureka” “ I mean what do they teach them in schools these days?

I have had a blood test and am home breaking my fast, so that's the worst part of the day over. I've got an appointment to have my teeth cleaned tomorrow but as my sore tooth is sore again I suspect he's going to end up pulling it out and cleaning it separately.
Good morning...sorry...afternoon. Oh good-o, it's almost chs n tst time. Time flies when you're cleaning lavs and scrubbing the drain. (They don't teach you about that in school) My life is soo glamorous.

The good news is my fuel bill's down by £70 compared to this time last year. I know it's been milder but it must have been helped by spending my evenings under the fur throw. Going to need it tonight, it's looking cold. I think I'll get a bear suit next winter so I can move about...that should scare the bejehovah out of the witnesses.

Hope you're all ok.

I've just managed to watch my first film on Netflix so am quite chuffed. Mind you, I only located the subtitles by accident, by knocking the remote on the floor.
Evening all. We did learn about cleaning lavs at school, our school had a pretend flat and we had to spend a day cleaning it and tidying it , washing and ironing and then cooking our lunch and cleaningnup, great fun. My bf and I, our lunch ended up on the walls, it was hilarious but we had to clean it all off. I used my hand steamer from lidl today, was well, impressed, only cleaned all the bathroom. I got early bus to ibiza and bought some summer black patent m'tang platform sandals, they are modern but comfy.
Middle sis phoned and wants we sisters and a friend to go to Hayling island for 60s weekend for her 75th birthday in July.,yay im up for that, hopefully she can book it soon.
Hoja slept here lastmnight , wasmup withnthe lark and packing more stuff and left for her new job and her new flat. I felt sad and then thought this is silly,,so went to ibiza
Good morning biddies. I hear it is rather chilly there. Am still in my bed but looks ok outside.
Shaney Feud and the Americans are coming along well. Having a lie in this morning instead of rushing aroung getting buses.

ooh, snow in Norwich. I hope those far-flung northern biddies are wrapped up nice and warm.
blooming cold here darn sarf too. Sis went home today, so its a bit quiet here.
Afternoon all
No snow here this side of the county, brilliant sunshine all day so far but the wind is cold.
The minute cast on Accu says light rain in about an hour but the hourly bit says thunderstorm at 3.00pm.
Nothing doing here.I've been a bit down in the dumps ,usual mizz making aches and pains but I did leave the house today and tottered to the shops and library before the four walls caved in on me .
Hope you're all ok.
Am looking forward to those Neti .Is Martha still in it ?
I've just read this book on my tablet Woofy for a bargain 99p.It's very good and I thought you might like it .Similar to the Nicola Upson books but with Agatha Christie .
A Talent for Murder Kindle Edition
by Andrew Wilson.

Evenin' all...by 'eck it's cold. Just got back in time from the shops, we had a blizzard. It soon passed over though and since then we've had wind, rain and sunny spells.
Shops didn't have a lot to offer so I've just done a sainsbury's order. Why is it when I go to checkout and they offer a list of suggestions of things I might like there's always a big bottle of gin?.. :)

I know the feeling shaney, so many things I'd love to be doing, so little muscle power and stamina. Had a weather headache today. Chin up, think positive and all that.
I must have been psychic yesterday, I'm pretty sure the JW's were going door to door, two women, I didn't answer it.

Hope the rest of you are warm and well.
No shaney she's not in it again yet. She's in Feud though.
Have had a good clear out of underwear, boil washed my white panties, then sorted them into sizes and rubbish ones. I counted to 48 before I gave up. Huge rubbish bag to go to the bins. Miss my car. Its a good feeling though. Must start on shoes and clothes next..
hello all, still quiet and blooming cold here. Sis and I had a triumphant time, I now have working outside lights again (bulb changing, me up a highish ladder) and a very posh sturdy new fence along one side of the tortoise enclosure. We also made up some rather good pots from things in smaller pots and I have got a very posh display which has cheered up one corner of the garden no end. Next time she comes we are assembling a greenhouse (aluminium and plastic panes) for a sun room for the tortoises Oh and I have got a Dot (amazon) huge fun

I had to look up Dot. What's it do that's useful?

Deentist decided not to pull out my tooth till I'm back from holiday, which sounds sensible, but he measured me up for a denture thingy to replace it with until such time as I want another implant; apparently the hole will distort itself otherwise.
Sorry shaney you had a mizz day. Im full of the joys, i even put up a wireless doorbell cos i can't wait for Mr N to never get round to it. I am not allowed a drill so I unscrewed the old bell push and found a huge hole from some other electricic bell from years ago, so i packed that and plastered over it, then heated a skewer and made a hole in the middle if the back of new bell push and screwed it into the one remaining screwhole in the wall. Success, its a dell boy bell, has 36 different tunes,, Mr N nonplussed!
Lol Neti ..does it play Hooky Street .
Our doorbell hasn't worked properly for years despite fiddling with it.It used to ring next door for some reason. It just makes a sort of weak tinging sound. My solution is a sign next to it saying ,doorbell not working, please knock.
No thunderstorm but golfballs of hail coming down the chimley earlier. It's freezing cold.
Ooh is that one of those things that you ask questions of Woofy ?
I'd be yelling it at all day ...haha...
Alexa where are my reading glasses ?
On your head you daft moo.
Night all.
