Avast Blocking My External Hard Drive
My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.
Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)
(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Well done neti, hope it heals well.
Yes shaney, it's a bloomin cold wind. I had to drag myself to the shops and it was padded coat and boots back on. Thought I'd be the only one all muffled up but I wasn't. Spent most of this afternoon dozing.
I've seen pics of that hotel on tinter, I'll watch the programme on catch up. Did Alice ever give birth?

oh, I must see if that's still around, shaney, I've stayed there (not at my own expense). The flight was delayed because someone fell ill en route and they decided it would be healthier to turn round and take him to Rome rather than carry on and drop him in Tunis, so it arrived in Nairobi after midnight and my driver had gone home (it turned out).
There were lots of drivers with old London cabs, so I took one; 20 minutes later, in pitch blackness thousands of miles from anything except predators, he turned round and said "Do you know where Giraffe Manor is?" I had to explain that no, I hadn't the faintest idea, that's why I was in a cab...
Anyway, he got me there, and the giraffes were poking their heads through the windows over breakfast in the morning.

Oh Jno ....you lucky thing.Yes,that was it ,Giraffe Manor. They had two other places as well .Lovely people and they rent the land from the local tribes and try to keep it all ecological as to employment and the wild animals. It was like an old colonial place.
At least you were in a car.Giles and Monica went up in plane to travel 250 miles to deliver stuff to another hotel. The plane looked as if was held together by string and selloptape .
It was really good and Giles Coren is very amusing.
Ah ..here it is on Wiki Jno

that's the one, I've just looked it up on the map and it's really just on the fringes of Nairobi, but it didn't feel like it the way he took me - it was just emptiness all round, no houses. Looking at it, it's just on the other side of the Nairobi national park (which is a safari reserve) from the airport, so either he drove through that or he took me on a big loop outside the city to get there. He didn't charge me much, though, so it wasn't a scam.
we are off to sail on a tall ship today. Not very far, maybe an hour or so out of Woolwich if we're lucky, so we don't get to see the Orinoco flow and I doubt there'll be many sails up. And we don't even get allocated a ship till we get there but it will be one of these

Good morning all. Have a nice trip jno, I dislike boats.
I love giraffes and am patiently waiting for April to give birth. They are pregnant for 15 months + 60days maybe, its not an exact science.
Am staying at home today, face fine but jaw aches a bit and am only drinking tea through a straw. Now that wouldn't be very cool on a pavement cafe would it. I have my street cred to think about.
Hija's arrives tomorrow so am clearing her room, but will allow MN to sleep in their again tonight.
Cat came in at 23.30 and after an incial few howlings was quiet all night, thank heavens

Hello all
Another dull day. There was a burst of sunshine earlier but it's gone again.
Ooh lovely Jno.I love to see the tall ships when they come in here for the festival. We only get a couple though.
Neti ,the weather never bothered me until I got this arthritic condition and it does affect it immensely. My joints swell and ache terribly in the damp cold weather. I'd swap for your warmer climate any day.
Have a nice time with your sister Woofy.

I was surprised to see a mermaid in Woolwich yesterday. She was trundling around in a plastic bubble, apparently controlled by a man in the crowd with a wand. I suppose it might just have been a selfie stick, but she didn't seem to be driving it herself, she was greeting people with gracious but watery waves. It was rather clever, I thought.

D'oh, start again... silly computer's doing a neti and typing ridiculous words.
Morning all from a dreary Derby. Much too chilly for mermaids I think, 7C. We've had the odd sprinkling of rain but not enough to do any good.
I felt even worse yesterday and did nothing but the essential. So far, fingers crossed, I feel a bit better.
Hope you're all mobile.

Oh what a night, was texting hija's til 3am when she got her first of 3 flights. Then mad cat was climbing into bidet, bath and basin and then computer table yeowling all the time. At one point I couldn't find her and I presume she was under the telephone table. Then hija's flights were late, and she's just got her luggage and is biw rushing for 3rd and last flight. Hope she makes it. I am shattered! Tooth hole is throbbing although not painful.
Hope you are all ok.
Hope you are all ok.
Lovely shaney, Winter's old photos are fantastic, the tiny details are so clear. They're still going and they used to be the only ones to do passport photos that made people actually look human.
I love looking at the Francis Frith old photos of Long Eaton. I'm sure that one day I'll spot my mum doing the shopping. :)
