My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Yesterday was chatting to another gay friend, the one who is in Beauty and the Beast. He was due to arrive here on Monday on the cruise ship he is singing on, he didn't make the cruise due to a chest infection. So we wont be meeting for a coffee and catch up. These gays! They pet one down everywhere ¡
Oh haha pet one down!! Not in my case
Let one down that should be!!!

it was a lovely day today so we went across town to see a Tudor mansion with topiary

https://www.hallplace.org.uk/
That looks lovely Jno.Very clever how they do that topiary. Looks an interesting place.
It's been glorious here today and got out quite warm out in the back garden as it's a sun trap but cool at the front .I poodled around out there for a while and murdered a few weeds and dandelions and now it's time to rest my aching back.
Night all.
Morning all...another lovely one, looks like we're in for a tropical weekend. I'm loving these spring days but I hate to say we could do with some rain. I need another lolling day, I keep pushing myself and paying for it big time stylie.

Oh never mind neti, Baz hasn't met you yet, there's always a chance. Sadly I now have no chance at all with George Michael.
sigh

Love the topiary jno but what the heck with that bus? I used to live ten mins away from this bridge/railway station and buses and lorries often got stuck under it...probably still do. You'd think they'd know better.
It was built 1837 for the Midland Counties Railway, designed by Charles Blacker Vignoles. Reconstructed about ten yrs ago. I fell off my bike on the way to school (my friend's fault) a few yards back from where that pic starts.

sigh... 40th wedding anniversary. I have celebrated it by going to the dentist with toothache and getting some antibiotics.
Congratulations jno. Sorry about the toof. You won't be having a ruby set in that one today then?
Snap jno, I was in such agony I rushed to dentist to get rid of to of she refused asbi still have infection, so gave me strong painkillers which seem to he working, ahh.
I'm sorry Robi I don't want Baz now that I know where hes been!!
Lovely day day but was a bit grim to start with. I've bought a check shirt as they are the silent fashion, no one mentions them and shops are not flooded with them, but everyone is wearing them. Luckily O found one in a men's section in a Primary equivalent.
Just eating prawn, avocado and lettuce with Marie Luisa sauce, damn cat jumped on table to try to get it, she's only mad when she wants to be!!
Have washed 2 beds, and all bathroom stuff.
Hello folks
Congratulations to you both Jno.No candlelit steak dinner then.I hope it soon clears up.Dental probs are catching lately in biddyland.
Cloudy day here after yesterday's glorious sunshine.
Nothing exciting to report.Three quid on the Lotto is hardly going to get me to warm sunny climes.
That’s very beautiful Jno....reminds me of the Green Knowe books. Hope the toofy achers get fixed soon, its horrible.
I have fixed the tap! with no injuries, no help and not a lot of swearing.
Morning...wakey wakey, the sun's shining, time to reveal some flesh.
No doubt it'll be a weekend of screamers, pyromaniacs and bbqs complete with the heady aroma of last year's rancid fat.

hey ho, don't worry, be happy

Well good day to y'all.
We had mfew drinkie poos in the sun and tapas and there was big marathon with runners from the world over, with music so sat and watched and I bopped a bit, Mr N made a delicious dinner with chickpeas and chorizo, very nice. I picked the winner of the Grand National but didnt bet. :0(
Good morning, i am typing this very carefully and with no alcohol anywhere near!
Couldnt sleep last night, just one,of those rare nights. The cat doesnt disturb us much now as we've found that when she yeowls, if we ignore her or shout from the bed, " its ok Mousey, mummys here" she shuts up and sleeps on bath mat (her own, not our one), and all is peaceful. She seems happy enough for now.
Im out of strong painkillers so will see if i can get some more to tide me over til i see dentist.
Robi I was so surprised to see David back at work, that i yelped, was a good episode!
Morning all
It's a lovely one too.Nice yesterday as well although we still had that chilly breeze. We're supposed to reach the dizzy heights of 18C today although for those of you inland I expect it'll be warmer .It's always that bit cooler on the coast.
Hope you're all ok.Make the most of it ,it's all downhill from tomorrow.
Morning...looks lovely here too, I haven't ventured out yet. It's supposed to reach 21C but will be chilly on my patti-ho, it always is. My mum refused to say patio, she said it was a back yard :)
Yes, as expected, someone fired up a very stinky bbq but it didn't last long. I must have been spot on with my water cannon.

Yes neti, I was surprised about David too. I don't know what the time span's supposed to be but I'm sure he'd never come back from a serious episode like that so quickly. The comments around the interweb seem to be saying the same thing.

Well done with the tap woofy...have you put a card in your local newsagent?.... ahem I mean as a plumber of course. :)
I had the first good night's sleep in months, I'm trying to think whether or not I did anything different...

oi! who nicked me answer?
Robi, I am shocked by your rooooodness!
Today I have baked a loaf of sourdough bread, my first this year. It sells lovely but I fear the dough was too wet but we’ll see once its cool.
oh and its funny you should say about the stinky barbecue because we had that (not me the neighbours) yesterday. The whole neighbourhood smelled like a very cheap kebab house. I’d be ashamed to cook in public anything that smells that bad, let alone offer it to guests.
From May 1 all bbq and garden fires prohibited, if they are anywhere near a tree, but the people on balconies near my trees dont think it refers to them, i hate the smell of greasy meat, and only electric bbqs or ones with a fitted chimney are permitted, but no one takes any notice and then when there is a mountain fire they all, pretend it wasnt them. The trees are so dry that it only takes a spark to set the island ablaze.
We went to Ibiza Town and had a walk round, then we ate montaditos again with chicken wings, chips and fried brie balls. Really nice. I only drank cola as I felt rough last night. Had a lovely choc hazelnut icecream from Mcdonalds and we sat at the old port watching the formentera ferry float away.

cor fu what a scorcher, it's 25 out there, but no problem, there will be blizzards tomorrow. I have been out weeding the lawn, but though I can get rid of the broad bladed stuff and (with extreme patience) most of the clover, the moss defeats me. If I removed it all it would take forever, and be back byt he end of the month, and there wouldn't be much lawn left.
