This suddenly appeared last night and I can't make any sense to it - The heading is Microsoft Internet Explorer - the sub heading says 'The Best Advice To Take' the message reads 'It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious'. Can anyone throw any light on this because it really has worried me?
It is very unlikely that the message was directed at you personally. It is extremely difficult to "connect" to your PC directly (especially if you use a dial-up connection such as a 56k modem) without you instigating a connection since one would have to "guess" the IP address which was leased out (very temporarily) to you by your ISP. I guess it was a joke or malicious coding added by someone who hacked the website you were visiting.
Ooh, I forgot to say: It could also be a virus. Hows your antivirus looking. Most people install it then never do the virus definition updates rendering it defenceless against new viruses. You should do a liveupdate every week if possible.
Thank you for your reassurance buttons - but before this message appeared I was asked for my name and when I refused, this other message showed - so you can understand why I was a bit jittery! My anti - virus is automatic update, so that's OK, but appreciate your reminder. My imagination went in overdrive, but as you've said it's nothing to worry about - I won't! Thanks again.
