typed in what?
If you're using Word (2007) there is an icon in the home tab/fonts that has a capitel "A" and a lowercase "a" beside each other and a little down arrow.
Simply highlight (range) the text you want to convert to upper/lower case and press the button, it will give you a few options on what to do with the text.

It always helps if you include which word processor program the document is typed in.

Thanks Wildwood - very rude of me not to have said so before! Merry Christmas!
