Has anyone got into Minecraft yet? Someone at work raves over it and the basic version in free.

Thanks Ed; I did watch a youtube clip of someone who'd built a 'to scale' model of the starship enterprise in minecraft.

Another good looking open and sandbox MMO is a world-building game called LOVE

It is certainly pretty.

I think Minecraft wins through it's childish simplicity however.

My son has been playing it for a while now, he spends hours and hours building stuff, personally I can't see the point, but it has certainly made a lot of money for it's creator!
