We fancied going away for Christmas and NY to our favourite place of Costa Teguise in Lanzarote, we have a friend who owns an apartment there we could use,okay I thought and went on Sky Scanner, the cheapest airfare was over £1000 I expected maybe £500 or so , looks like we’ll be staying here, I won’t be paying that kind of money on principle

I don't know where you would fly from, but a simple check for easyJet from Gatwick has varying prices depending on days. Some are under a hundred, but as you get towards the festive period they rise to mid 100s and mid 200s.

I think it's the regional airport that's adding so much on. If I really wanted to go I'd look at getting myself to Gatwick or perhaps Manchester or Bristol. Plus I think prices may be reduced nearer the time. I can pay up to 4 times more for a flight from Bournemouth than from Gatwick, even with the same airline.

There might only be one or two flights from NCL. If you go to an airport with more competition, it will be cheaper. If you are flexible on your days that will help too

Hoppy sometimes that’s false economy travelling say to Leeds Bradford or Edinburgh which would be our option , we’d have to add that to the cost of the airfare

Everything's gone up. We wanted to go to Dublin in a few weeks for my birthday. We can get flights for under £50 each return , but the hotels are a fortune, even Premier Inn quoted £175 per night.

I take your pout Bobbi. However I would check the cost out if Manchester before you give up. There would be far more flights from there.

Alternatively check Newcastle again in a couple of months, as it may have changed.

Try the Ryanair website. (not an airline that I would recommend though)

They appear to have some NCL ACE flights and might not appear on Skyscanner.

Ladylala the reason that Dublin hotels are so expensive is because the Government has bought out all the cheaper rooms to house Ukrainian refugees

If you both can obtain Senior Citizens Railcards, book in advance and travel off-peak you may find that you can get to many airports for very little money.

I realise things have changed over the last 2 years but I once organised a 3 centre trip to Italy for a pittance because we were flexible as to times and airports we flew from/to and took advantage of off peak travel and deals etc and were prepared to travel this end to get the right deal. You can get good deals on train bookings in advance.

I've never done this, but it might also be worth looking at a flight to somewhere else for a night then onto Lanzarote. You are both retired so you have the flexibility.

Ditch your cookies and also employ several email addresses. And also try more than one site. I did this on my 3 centre Italy trip and saved a fortune.

Not fully so, Helen, and not just Dublin. Those original contracts are coming to an end now or have already ended as the tourist season gets underway.
Government hoped to extend but that's not popular.

More Irish are holidaying here this year which has increased demand for accommodation and that has lead to price gouging.
The same is happening with car hire which is shocking and folk are hiring in NI to drive down south.
When travel abroad gets back to some sort of normal the greed this year will bite the gougers on the bum but damage places like ours where prices have stayed much the same as previous years.
