York hotels

I have decided to get my parents a voucher for a weekend away in York for xmas. Could anyone recommend a good hotel please preferably in the city centre. I don't really want to go with the big chain hotels but something with a bit more character . TIA

This hotel ~ "The Judges Lodgings" is right in the centre of York,in fact it is only 2 minutes from the Minster,and some rooms have a Minster view.
It is not cheap,BUT neither is it wildly expensive either.

One futher point though,I get the feeling that many good hotels in York may be fully booked for Christmas by now,and of course some of the smaller independent ones may close over Christmas & New Year.
If you CAN get into The Judges Lodgings it's well worth the price,we have stayed there 3 times and love it.

Even tho I live in york I have stayed In this hotel on my honeymoon and have often dined there since . I highly recommend it .
