Well if it does it'll be primarily your beloved Noo Labour's fault me old china, for enacting the devolution catastrophe. Is it time to reverse that and bring the Union back together? TBH I think England will thrive without the millstones of Wales, Scotland and NI anyway so it's them that need to get their April in gear.

I’m afraid I really don’t get where you’re coming from. When you said this: "...but the British seem to be rapidly giving up on Britain." I assumed that by “Britain” you meant the political entity that was Britain. But in the last few posts you seem more concerned about the niceties of what the remainder should be called were Scotland to gain independence . So...

I. That the two Kingdoms of England and Scotland shall upon the first day of May next ensuing the date hereof and for ever after be United into One Kingdom by the Name of Great Britain. And that the Ensignes Armorial of the said United Kingdom be such as her Majesty shall appoint. And the Crosses of St. George and St. Andrew be Conjoined in such manner as her Majesty shall think fit, and used in all Flaggs, Banners, Standards and Ensignes both at Sea and Land.

nope for the nth time that's the past. An expert that will tell me that 8% departing from the UK will end the whole UK. I would have thought that was clear to you by now I have said it over a dozen times. Any I will not add any more to this thread until you find me an expert that agrees with your opinion.
Great Britain is a geographical term, not a political one.
It refers to the biggest island in the two island British Isles (the other island being Ireland).
If Great Britain is no longer United, then the name cannot stand.
England is a country, Wales was annexed and was a principality but the Welsh Assembly now designate it as a country. Northern Ireland is a province.
We could probably get away with the United Kingdoms of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (UK for short).

The name of the remainder is causing a lot of irrelevant problems.
I'm English. I'm proud to be English, proud to be British and proud to be a citizen of the political construct that is the United Kingdom. If Scotland gains its independence I will still be English. I will still live in Great Britain (the island) and so be British, so will the Scots, but they may not choose to call themselves as such.
If 5m people (or rather 50% + 1 of those who vote) declare themselves no longer part of the UK it will make no difference to me whatsoever. I'm not particularly fussed what the remaining three countries are called because I shall still be English and still be British and Scottish independence will not alter that.
