its all to do with photosysnthesis (sp?) im sure we were told why when we were studying it, but ive forgotten.
Chlorophyll.
because it absorbs all colours of light except green.
all the leaves are brown and the sky is blue,on a winters day.
NORM can't even get the lyrics right.

But why is it green, and not say 'Purple'?
bob has already told you the answer. Chlorophyll, the pigment which makes grass green absorbs blue and red light and reflects green.

How strange? Many thanks for that :)
its only green because thats the colour weve been told it is.somebody many many many years ago decided to call grass green, so we follow suit. for all we know it could be black. how do we even know we are all seeing the same colour? yeh so we know grass is green cause thats what they told us. but am i seeing the same thing as you? you know its green, i know its green, but are we actually seeing the same colour? and how could you prove it? i look at grass and think yeh its green, you look at grass and think yeh its green, but are we seeing the same thing? we are all programmed from a very young age to be pretty much the same. but if one of us was brave enough to stand up and say no, that grass is not green its black, we would end up in an institution. right must refill my glass.
. . . with this?
lol, sorry tomtech, it can be proven that we are all seeing the same thing. Just need a spectrum analyser to show the grass is only emitting light of green's frequency.
black would have no light emitted at all.
