Hotels in Venice
my sister is planning on going to venice in June. It is for a special occasion so would like the hotel to be special but dont believe they have an enless budget. Most important is the location of the hotel - central for all attractions if possible(they will only be there 3 nigths!). Can anyone recommend anywhere? Also I think they will fly with Ryanair which goes to Treviso airport - is that far away from the centre. Any advice welcomed.

the centre of Venice is San Marco but anywhere is within walking distance. Stay in Venice and not on the mainland (Mestre) where some hotels are. We usually stay in 2 star hotels or apartments but there's a lot of very good 3 and 4 stars.
If possible fly to Marco Polo (BA and Easyjet fly there) as it's a much better introduction to Venice - you get the water taxi in rather than a bus and it's closer.

flew with ryanair last september which as u say lands at treviso.there is a ticket office in the airport for the bus which goes to venice --cost about 5.then u can either walk to your hotel or pref get the vaporetto .work out where the hotel is and get off at required stop (just like a bus but a boat)ryanair cancelled our flight home because of bad weather and more or less left us stranded, had to get bus to railway station ,catch train to milan some 200 km away ,find hotel for the night andget a flight home the following afternoon(300 out of pocket)
Just got back from there, we went with Ryanair on one of there new planes and at the Treviso airport we got a return coach ( a Ryanair one ) and you get off at the bus station where you can get a water bus or walk to your hotel, it takes about 2hrs-10mins on the plane then about 1hr on the bus.
We stayed at a great hotel that I'm sure you would love.

took my wife to venice for her 40th (many brownie points!!) We flew squeezyjet, but all routes into Venice centre are easy. We stayed at hotel Locanda Vivaldi. On the waterfront of the Lido. % min walk to St. Marks SQ. It was small, elegant romantic with fantastic personal service. I would recommend it to any couple. It was cheap to book on Octopus website.
