I think I am about to ask the world's stupidist question here. Does anyone know where you can buy homes for less than 100k? I recall looking about 5 years ago in Salford and Wales where you could get a decent home for under 30k. Like a fool I did not buy then, and feel I have left it too late. I have a cash budget of about 85k tops, but earn about 15k so if I got a mortgage I may be able to buy somewhere up to 140K. I am single so I will have to buy this on my own. Does anyone else feel that the price of housing is extortionate and feel you should not have to pay 6 figures just for somewhere to live? Weblinks and information would be appreciated.
Scunthorpe, Macclesfield, Carlyle, Sidley, the opportunities are endless! Perhaps you could narrow it down a bit...is this for living in, or rental property, or just to hide money? :-)
The price of properties is now ridiculous, I came off the property ladder last year and am now stuck in an expensive rental flat and cant get back on the ladder again. My earnings are low like yours but with not as much cash as you have I am on a hiding to nothing.
Wow, thanks guys, that was quick! Should have said that I want to buy it to live in, so that should make things easier. Might have known there would be problems with this plan, should have bought when I had the chance. Yes, I do need to have a job to live, have not made enough to retire on yet. So much for these affordable homes, where are they? If the price of homes is so high people can't afford them, then why doesn't the price go down if they don't sell?
Strange question.........surely you'd be looking for a house near where your job is if you plan to live in it? So, the obvious question is where do you live? Not much point buying a house in Hull for 50,000 if you live in Cornwall.
The housing market is still at the moment so I believe house prices will begin to fall as people don't seem so keeo to pay over the odds now. You can get a good bargain on some houses which have been on the market a while. Many houses in Wales for under 100k, but as someone mentioned, what about your job? Is it mobile? And do you want to live in a depressed, crime ridden place full of chavs and bulldogs. Not that there is anything wrong with bulldogs.
Jsut to answer the second part of your question - the price of houses at the moment is a joke.
One day the government is going to wake up and realise that a whole generation can't afford to buy and will therefore by relying on the state when they retire.
Personally, I blame the buy-to-let market - I wish the government would make it so that in order to get a BTL mortgage you had to have at least a 30% cash deposit - that would slow it down a bit.
