The reason why your supposition is flawed is because the recent rise in violent assaults/murders is just that - recent.

Please explain to the class why this has only occurred in the past few years.

the laws in this country I feel will only start to change when MPs or their families have had to go through the same emotion as a family who have lost someone through a knife or gun then they just might listen.
Get caught with a knife 2 years in jail and ten with a gun automatically,and if you kill and one hundred percent proven death sentence no appeal
