MM Links Solutions August 2008 [Week 3]

This third week in the reign of Sir Sarumite went crazy, as points were flying right left and centre and SIX entries finding THREE of the four links! Following a theme of Gardener's World, I can now reveal the chosen links were:

Border LINE
Bench MARK
Lawn TENNIS
TUNING Fork

Only one link word was able to withstand detection for nearly eight hours and the other three lasted only two minutes!

First to enter (and to score) was Dinkypuzzled who came in promptly to set the BENCH MARK for TWO POINTS. One minute later jan1956 was on song with TUNING FORK to score another TWO POINTS and get the game well underway. Sparks were about to fly!

At the same recorded time of 09.02, ex-champion Grenmus took advantage of the situation when he predicted LAWN TENNIS and BENCH MARK and TUNING FORK to score SIX POINTS and I thought he would easily overhaul wickedtongue (another ex-champion) who got off to a flier last week! Alas it was not to be ~ since the next entry was from wickedtongue himself with the same three hits and claiming the same SIX POINTS!

Not to be outdone, within the necessary two-minute window came beejay1124 with the same three hits and scoring the same six points. One of these three must be nominated as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK and I propose comparative newcomer of beejay1124 should be so honoured.

It should be noted that the same three hits were registered by cliffyg, Shazza & x-ray , but because they had delays of more than two minutes, they each score three points (rather than six). Nevertheless, all six entrants with three hits out of four are to be congratulated. Well Done!

However, retracing our steps, several entrants did manage to score single hits within the two minutes and therefore pick up TWO POINTS. They were Aquagility, freebi2, gen2, patchett, Christiana, slaney & paulineward. Also on two single (delayed) hits were keyboardix & lysander.

But what about the final link? That lasted until 14.52 on the first day and the arrival of Entrant #32, when teacher1 engaged for battle with BORDERLINE and BENCH MARK to score a very healthy THREE POINTS. I have been keeping an eye on teacher1 and he often makes some very shrewd predictions ~ with scant success. This week he has got his just rewards. Well spotted!

Remember that this is a five-week month and there are TWO weeks left to try catch wickedtongue! Will Sir Sarumite be as generous with the points next week? Be there early for your share of the booty just in case!

Although I featured not at all in your reckonings, thank you, crofter, for your efforts.

I was late on the scene so I could only post a couple of hours ago, but I certainly hadn't reckoned with Sir Sarumite being so kind, I was relying on something rather more obscure!

No doubt next week he will go the other way and wrong-foot me yet again. :-(

Dinkypuzzled, To get to double figures has been done before ~ but usually at the END of a 5-week month! The maximum score in any one month is 10 points with FOUR early correct predictions.

On some months, 8 points can be a winning score. We are now on 12 points with two weeks to go!

My records show 4 or 5 people reaching 10 points (including yourself!) and lysander scored 11 points a few months ago! We could be up for a new record!

It must be time to introduce a cunning plan next week, to muddy the waters somewhat!!? (S) :O)

There has to be a word meaning the opposite of Hot Shot and if you know what it is then we take the honours.
